Well, it's — a neural bridge. A means of linking up between brains.

In my world, the mobile suits we've developed are piloted by two people whose minds are working in tandem. It's called drifting, and it's essentially sharing minds as you work. Without that, there would be an overload; the human brain isn't designed to carry it on its own.
