Things could absolutely go wrong. But despite what some people here want to believe, Sedorum and Taeum are not going to put the war on hold until we somehow gain the power to see all possible outcomes of our choices and a perfect understanding of the orb's nature.
If we want to prevent a war, we need to act as soon as we can, and by necessity that means acting with incomplete information. Could it go wrong? Absolutely, but that's true for every single choice we could make. Not choosing, waiting- that is choosing that more people die, and either Entr'i or the Highest One will end up with both orbs, along with many dead in the war.
