Itachi was a shithead, but he was correct, and he was even right to be angry. How many of our film nights have contained anythin' but twenty-and-twenty-first century films made in America? How many of those cultural traditions are steeped into the fabric of this crew, that others are just expected to follow and be comfortable with?
How many Russian holidays have we even celebrated here? Ravkan? Chinese, Japanese... I dunno, Risan or Vulcan? What about clothing, music, cultural trappings; all of it? Why are we using the old Gregorian calendar, when we could just as soon be using Federation stardates?
Ms. Farr's a grown adult with, what. Sixty some-odd years on Itachi? And a world-renowned superhero, by her own account, and she has a little under – let's say half – a crew complement that understands where she's coming from the majority of the time.
She's not a bad person because she didn't know. It's admirable that she's tryin'. But this ain't the first time a culture clash has happened here. Might be better if, in the future, folks could approach these matters as a question rather than a statement.
