[ oh this is gonna be awkward. Because Kaneki is awkward and he is not a people's person and this is so strange. Regardless, he is Doing His Best, and they are all here to fix their regrets and get along, right? Right.

He waves. And then feels silly for doing so. ] H-hello, my name is Kaneki. I'm from a planet called Earth. [ should he specify he is from Japan, Tokyo, too? No, that sounds too much, so he won't ]

I've just arrived, and there is a lot I still have to learn. So I figured it's easier to ask everyone what information you believe is important for newcomers to know about. Things you wish you knew when you first arrived, I guess.

[ but suddenly another question comes to mind ] Oh-uhm... is there a library here? Or a place where I can find books? [ or does anyone want to share books with him, that works too ]

[ regardless, he bows his head after, a simple polite gesture ]

I've managed to acquire a fair share of books, if you wanted to pop by and take a look. I don't mind sharing. Specially not with someone else from Earth.

[The way she says it makes it sound like a long time ago. Like maybe she hasn't been back for a while and doesn't really mind the fact.]

What sort of things do you like reading? I've got a few different genres here I could pull from.

Ah, I have never been there before.

[ he wonders if she has been at the station for a long time now, perhaps that's why she sounds so melancholic]

I like horror and thriller books a lot, but I have found myself reading all genres. I can appreciate every type of book. Do you have preferences for any type in particular?

Oh, I love all books. As a teacher, I'm morally obligated to say that. Even if it's the honest truth.

[there's a pause as she realizes something. A big important factor.]

The only problem is the books I have are all written in my native language. But I'm sure there's a way to translate things in no time if that proves to be an issue.

[ a teacher! Kaneki is actually a bit excited to hear that; he always loved school, he always loved to learn, he always loved to read. ]

Oh- I can read English. [ Kaneki smiles wider ] What... what do you teach?

I'm relatively certain there's an instant translator built in to the earpieces so even if you didn't, we'd manage.

[Oh wait. He's asked about what she teaches. There's a moment of hesitation. Almost like she has to stop and actively think back to what she taught.]

And I taught English. It feels like another lifetime ago now.

Important to know? Well, perhaps first off that these orbs we're meant to collect are sentient and very, very powerful.

[ Everyone on the most recent mission learned that lesson the hard way. ]

You might be able to program a simulated library in the simulation room, but it would probably defeat the point, given that you would have to program all the books yourself. You couldn't exactly learn anything new from them.

[ he opens his mouth, but closes it again.

A pause, which allows the robot to say everything she wants to say. There is so much to unpack here. ]

Ah- yes, of course. I would rather read something I'm not familiar with. [ this is a talking robot. How- why? Wha?!

But back up, because amidst of all the information he has to process right now, one point seems more important than the others (and surprisingly, it's not about her being a robot) ]

[ She pauses, though, because there is one book-- in datapad form-- that she has read since she arrived here. ]

A friend of mine has his first memoir here with him. I suppose you could read that, if he lets you borrow it. It's basically an extremely thorough history of my galaxy, so I don't know how useful or interesting it would be to someone from Earth, but... There you have it, I guess?

[ But anyway, back to more important matters. ]

They're sentient, they speak, and they can do impossible things.

Well, I wouldn't mind reading it, I guess this is a good time to learn about other worlds.

[ but he has more questions about the orb, actually. A lot of them] I thought they were like... Artifacts.

Are they alive?

You'll have to ask Roger, then.

[ And yes, he is a droid much like her. ]

I... don't know, exactly. They seem to be magical in nature, which you may be able to guess is not my area of expertise.

Alright, thank you. [ okay. Roger. He probably won't go out of his way to bother this person, Kaneki is too shy for that. But at least he will remember the name.]

Hm... Do we know where they came from or who made them? [ maybe he should be asking Viveca this] Ah, you mentioned the last mission. What happened?

But uh, anyway, did you ask Viveca? She's pretty helpful. I think we can request stuff too, even, not that I've tried it yet.

I heard there are a lot of people from Earth, for some reason. [ maybe people from Earth have a lot of regrets]

I think you could. I'll ask her too, if you want. Books are important, even if I fall asleep reading 'em.

I wonder why some worlds are more common... [ HM. But isn't it a good thing there aren't so many regrets coming from someone's world? ]

Oh- I don't wish to bother. [ he can ask her, for sure ] You fall asleep reading books? [ kaneki can't imagine suck a thing ]

Ah, yeah... [ He palms the back of his neck, averting his gaze with a given sheepishness. ] I'm not the best student yet. If it's about magical wheel or something, it's different, but textbooks...

[ He grimaces. Guess who hasn't gotten around to trying fiction books for fun. ]

If it bothered me I wouldn't offer though. Maybe more people asking'd be like popular demand or something.

Ah. Textbooks can be different. But once you find something that catches your interest, I'm sure you won't fall asleep while reading. [ kaneki can stay awake all night long reading a book. He is that excited about them ]

And thank you. I do appreciate it. I wouldn't mind books on magic either, perhaps I could learn more about it. [ a pause ] Honestly, magic isn't real in my world...

Which language do you read in?

Japanese is my native language and the one I'm most used to, but I also can read in English.

Our earpieces do translate, but I prefer to read without the distraction.
