Like, say, [give him a moment to think, it's been a while since he had to do this,] the Runaways, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult. Probably Volbeat too, although they're a little newer.

For actual metal, try Judas Priest, or Scorpions. Then Metallica or Black Sabbath or, hell, even Megadeth and Cannibal Corpse.
