[Even before the feed flickers into life, anyone literally anywhere in the sunlight room is probably aware that there is something going on thanks to one very shrill scream immediately followed by several minutes of panicked shouting. When the feed does flicker on, the view is oddly…tall? It's at height with the tops of the trees in the sunlight room which is because Wei Wuxian is making this post from the top of one of those trees.

The reason why becomes immediately obvious when he pans down to the familiar form of Jake barking up at him from the base of the tree. Jake's expression is partially obscured through the foliage, though a close study will find more fear in Jake's face than threat. Whatever he thinks he's looking at, it isn't Wei Wuxian.

Finally, the view shifts to Wei Wuxian who is wide eyed and panicked, his face completely bloodless as he holds onto the tree with one arm and gestures at Jake below with the other.]

Why? [He squeaks out in a desperate whisper, eyes darting back to Jake again before he lets out a soft whimper and returns his attention to the feed.]

Why is there a dog?

[ Jake's post comes through almost simultaneously, text somehow communicating volume as much as his urgency. ]

I FOUND THE GHOST. I REPEAT, I FOUND THE GHOST. GOT IT UP A TREE IN THE SUNLIGHT ROOM. PLEASE ADVISE ON NEXT STEPS AND/OR EXORCISM.

Jake… [ Wait. ] Are we still…is this still part of the joke? I can’t tell if you guys are taking this way too seriously, or if you…

[ Finn breaks off for a long moment, trying to wrap his head around this whole thing; this thing that was starting to look less like an elaborately played out prank and more like a HUGE misunderstanding. ]

Do you really not know Jake is a dog?

[ How was that possible? He knew they’d talked many times, Jake himself had mentioned their conversations on more than one occasion. It felt absurd, borderline impossible that they wouldn’t have met in person or at least on video by now. ]

[That at least gets his attention and he stares back at the camera with his brow furrowed and drying tear tracks on his cheeks.]

...your brother is...a dog? [A hint of confusion trickles in for the first time alongside the fear.]

He’s…yeah. [ Finn rubs his face, this was becoming quite a common problem, even without the added complexity of what was obviously a much bigger fear than he had anticipated on Wei Wuxian’s part. ] I’m adopted. I kind of forget to tell people about the dog part because its not that uncommon in my world…

I’m sorry, Wei Wuxian, I really thought you guys were playing a joke, pretending you didn’t know each other. I just thought…since you’d talked a lot…

[ Well obviously that had been presumptuous. Finn felt so guilty about playing into the joke now…the joke that had clearly not been to either of them. ]

I’ll come get him, we’ll sort it out.
