Video | It's that spooky time of the year
[ Peter's right arm is in a sling, but he doesn't look worse for wear, just tired after the last mission but with a small smile on his face. ]
'Sup, everyone! What crazy weeks have been, uh? Who had 'the orbs are actually sentient and want to be used' in their bingo card? Not me, for sure, but it seems like there's more to these glowing magic balls than we first thought. That said, great job on the last mission, guys. No one died, and that's pretty good for my standards, I think we all have earned a well-deserved break.
[ Not only that, but his talks with Yelena about interrupted childhoods and missing family holidays had convinced Peter that there's no time like the present to enjoy these things. He had promised her a party, after all. ]
Going by Terra's calendar, er...Earth's calendar, in a couple of weeks it will be Halloween. It's a holiday from my homeworld where you light bonfires, wear costumes to ward off ghosts, and eat a lot of sweets. I hope I don't have to explain why making fires inside a space station is a bad idea, so let's focus on the sweets and scary costumes.
On October 30th there will have a pumpkin carving competition and a horror movie marathon because those are the quintessential activities of this kind of holiday. You can't have Halloween without it, although I've heard that some deranged people carve pineapples instead. [ He raises his eyebrows for a moment and makes a face that clearly shows how he considers those people to be insane. ] If you're competitive, the contest is a great opportunity to show everyone why you're the best with a knife without murdering anyone.
The next day, on October 31th, we will have the main event! A nightly Halloween costume party hold in the common living area. You can even do couple costumes. Everything is optional, of course, but come on, let yourself feel the spirit of the season.
[ ooc: there will be a mod-approved Halloween party log for the chars to have fun and mingle that will go up this next week o7! ]

Are we allowed to make suggestions for movies?
[Oh, hi Peter. It's the girl who threw you around like a rag doll and has no memory of it being you.]
permavideo
Ahhh, uh...yeahhh. I guess? It's a free world, and all that.
[ Would she try to kick him again if he says no? ]

Oh, you’re really going to do it.
[She'd been considering finding Peter and bugging him about it, but it looks like she doesn’t have to.]

I am. I promised, didn't I? I like to keep my word. [ He offers an easy smile. ] I also got another surprise for you, but It won't be done until my arm is fully healed. So you'll have to wait a little for it.
[ Hard to cook with just one hand, you see, but he's going to make her the promised candied oranges dipped in chocolate. ]

What happened to your arm?

[A pause.] Though, you mentioned... Halloween? And you're from Earth? [Not Tyria??]
Permavideo | Un: Star-Lord
Yes, I am. But I haven't lived on Earth for decades, I've been traveling the galaxy. Are you familiar with the holiday?
no subject
Surprisingly, though I'm not from Earth. [It's a human holiday, and humans did come from some other planet, but he thought this one originated in Tyrian history.] Do you know what it celebrates?

[ Which means they're all just that much closer to achieving their goals, their reason for being here. ]
Oooh, Halloween! Blimey, I've never celebrated one before — I mean, not in the strict sense of the word. Did a bit of dressing up too, but it was a little less about costumes.
[ There was some vague dabbling during Samhain once; also stopped a series of Witch Trials that could have ended very, very badly, but that ... probably doesn't quite count. ]
Ah. [ Anywho — ] Never did a pumpkin carving before! What'll we get if we win?
Permavideo | Un: Star-Lord
[ One step closer to...something. Peter's not sure what, and he's a bit skeptical about the chance to fix their mistakes, but since he's stuck here with other people, he's trying to be a team player. ]
Never? That's a shame, it's one of the most fun holidays you can have, in my biased opinion. Dressing up is always entertaining, but I admit that my favorite part is the sweets. As for the prize, uhm...[ Ooopps, he forgot to consider that people might actually want something in return. ] The winner gets the satisfaction of being the winner! And also....homemade cookies. I'll make them myself.
Can't say I recognize your voice...I'm Peter, nice to meet you.
no subject
Oh, yes — [ The Doctor flicks his channel over to video to match, and then offers a friendly wave. ] Hello! I'm the Doctor, nice to meet you. I saw you about back on Braccia, you were the bloke with the boots, eh?
I'm certainly not above bragging rights and cookies. And sweets! Tell me more about these sweets.

[He has no idea about Halloween but it is Totally His Aesthetic so he will Love it. Skulls and flames and horns and that sort of thing.]
What sort of movies? I haven't seen a lot of them back home but I remember there was one where this person transmuted themselves to become a fly or something I think it was. I dunno, it's been years since I saw a movie or whatever.
[Which. Has to change, clearly. He's a teenager that is part of the job description, right? Except not in his case given he was so focused on his promise to Al back home and all.]
Permavideo | Un: Star-Lord
[ Peter would be happy to see Ed enjoying himself with the decorations once he realizes what Halloween is about. ]
Scary ones! About ghosts, monsters, or mysterious murderers that need to be stopped...I'm trying to avoid any with Aliens because we don't need to get paranoid while living in a space station. Ohh I think I know the movie you are talking about. We've got a similar one in my world, but I wasn't allowed to watch it as a kid.
YEARS? That is a tragedy that needs to be fixed immediately.

What's wrong with pineapple carving? [Asked with the full intention of fucking with Peter a little bit.]
Permavideo | Un: Star-Lord
There will be no clowns and no snakes. I was thinking about movies like Poltergeist, the Shinning, Night of the Living Dead, the Little Pet Shop of horrors....
What ISN'T wrong with pineapple carving??? [ Oh, you, man. Do your worst and have fun. ] It's a pineapple, carving it Instead of using a pumpkin for Halloween is an affront to common sense and tradition.

[ His tone's light, despite the recent losses. Quill might get that - he likely noticed that Natasha, Steve and Shuri are nowhere to be found, and he's likely familiar with this sort of light tone. ]
Sounds like a good time.
Permavideo | Un: Star-Lord
[ The thing is...Peter never got to talk to Natasha or Shuri, but he did notice that Steve is gone. It's upsetting, to say the least. He knows this will be hard on the other Avengers present, and specially on Yelena. ]
I think we all could use a small break. [ There's a pause and then his expression eases into something less playful, more concerned. ]
You're doing okay?
