Hey, guys -- I know I haven't been all that talkative since I got here, and that's on me.

[ God, he hates shit like this, talking, voice commands, video -- but he's been a hermit long enough, too long, and there's some stuff going on behind the scenes that he's a little worried about, but not ready to bring attention to just yet.

(for reference, this is a stupid decision)

He takes a breath, and continues. ]

My name is Raleigh, and I know there's a bunch of other people here who are offering the same thing, but if anyone wants a sparring partner or would like to learn self-defense, I can help you out with that, regardless of skill level. I trained in the Pan Pacific Defense Corps as a jaeger pilot - I'll get back to that in a second - and have extensive experience in jaeger bushido which is...basically a bastardization of a bunch of different martial arts. I spent several years on active duty.

As far as what a jaeger is...think...giant robot that's about 76 meters or 250 feet tall. I'm from the same place Newt and Hermann come from, so I'm sure at this point most of you have heard about the kaiju.

...Anyway. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the training room for a while, or just hit me up privately if you want to set something up. And, hey -- I'm open to learning new stuff, too. So if you think you've got something to teach me, I'd love to learn, even if it's just something about your home planet, or a language you speak. I'm pretty good with those.

Also, uh -- are there any medical doctors on board? I'd like to get with you guys, if possible.

I've become pretty familiar with martial arts from my time on Earth if you need someone with a similar style. Obviously, I'd be using my holoform. I'm one of those "giant robots" Newt may have mentioned if you could parse his mile-a-minute talking.

Yeeeaaah, Newt can get pretty worked up. He's a good guy, just...you know. Chatty.

I spoke with uh, Megatron the other day. [ Still feels weird saying that, cause he definitely is aware of the whole Transformers franchise, even despite being born in 1998. ]

Holo definitely sounds better than a giant robot beating me into the ground. Are they solid? I don't know how that works, sorry if that's a dumb question.

I know the type. They grow on you. Like mold sometimes, but they grow on you.

[ So. Very. Chatty. ]

Yes, he's become something of a minor celebrity around here. I don't think he knows how to cope with the attention. [ Drift doesn't need the existential crisis of being mildly offended he wasn't included in some old cartoon. ]

Yes, they're solid. Be a waste of time if I asked you to shadowbox with some cheap light show.

I kinda know the feeling. [ raleigh was pretty well known back home in his glory days. ]

It sure would. Though I guess it would test some reflexes. When are you free?

... No, two times, final answer; the third one was at the fighting ring, and that didn't have a bar. But one of those also wasn't my fault, I didn't start it.

Oh! Can you show me how you guys do that whole slapping-people-with-sticks thing you do in the training room back at the PPDC? I wanna hit people on the dome with a stick for defense, too!

Nah. Just wear something you can move easily in.

[He punches a hand into his palm.]

Alright! I'm on my way. Don't go anywhere!

[HE'S BOOKIN' IT TO THE TRAINING ROOM. NO TIME TO WASTE.]

Uh huh. Take your time, I'll be right here.

[ He smiles wryly, settling in to peel out of his socks and shoes while he waits. ]

[And then, with the metaphorical blaring of a thousand trumpets, Newton appears in all of his glory!

... Which just means he's bounding through the doorway with a big dumb smile.]

Heeeey! Made it across the station without causing any trouble!

You proud of me?

[ Newt, you can be adorable when you want to be. Raleigh smiles, leans against the staff he's holding, tipping his head in invitation. ]

Sure am. You ready?

[He hops on one foot to start untying his boots, because that's a thing people do when they're sparring and stuff, right? They do the whole barefoot thing...! Of course, he almost topples just from that, but manages to lob one doc martin to the side before switching feet.]

Of course I'm ready, dude!

And just so you know, my pal Yzak's been teaching me a few moves, too.

So don't think you'll be dealing with a total pushover!

I wouldn't dare. [ He holds a hand up, admitting 'defeat'. ]

That's good, though. Means you likely already have a good base, helps us work up quicker.

Exactly!

... Buuut in the off chance... I'm not as good as I think... don't break my bones, I need those intact.

[He sounds mildly less confident when he says that. Just a touch.]

I'll take your lead, Morpheus.

[ He laughs, surprised as he shakes his head, pushing off the staff and leaning to set it down on the ground before heading closer to Newt and settling into a defensive stance. ]

I promise I won't break any bones. Why don't you show me what you already know, Neo?

[Oh, yep, there went all of his confidence. But as Uncle Illia told him: fake it until you make it. So he sucks in a deep breath, gets into the pose that Yzak had taught him in, and holds up his hands defensively.]

Defensive stuff, mostly.

Like — I think I can knock you on your ass.

[Like the train that says "I think I can!" until he eventually does. But his good pal did teach him a handful of really nice moves for defending against someone lashing out. Too bad he's only used it accidentally on a teammate so far...

... But it was cool when it did it, anyway!]

Raleigh, this is Dr. McCoy, I just arrived a couple of days ago. What can I help you with?

Hey, Doc. If you have a spare minute, I'd love to talk to you in person, privately.

( and that lock is immediate, once he figures the setting. )

Yeah, come down to the infirmary when you can.

( he'll just repurpose the surgical suite for a private exam room in the meantime. )

[ Ah, perfect. ]

Thanks. I'll be there shortly.

[ Within a few minutes, anyway -- he has some Concerns and while Newt is a doctor, sure, he's not quite the kind of doctor Raleigh thinks that he needs.

So he'll come and tap on the doorframe before poking his head in. ]

Dr. McCoy?

( Glancing up from the datapad he's been perusing, he waves the man in, gesturing to the table he's leaning a hip against. )

Raleigh, yes. C'mon in and have a seat.

( He'll give him some space, and close the door behind him, giving them both privacy from the rest of the infirmary. )

Sorry for the setting; if this were the medbay on the Enterprise, well- ( that sort of wave of the hand says a lot, a "we'd all be better off". Sigh, whatever, anyway, ) What can I do for you?

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to see me. Mediocre tech and all.

[ He'll hop up and make himself as comfortable as possible, hesitating a little before he starts in. ]

I, uh. I'm a little concerned about some damage I sustained back home not...healing right. My drive suit overheated, and I'm pretty sure there's something going on with my right side.

[ The left is old, ancient damage he doubts can be fixed. But it might be nice if his right side could be treated.

The other stuff -- he isn't sure he wants to address just yet. He was directly exposed to a nuclear core without extensive protection for several minutes and...Well. He's a little worried if the good doctor does any kind of CAT scan, he's gonna glitter like a leprechaun. ]

( No bigass, noisy CT scan, luckily... but actually, the tricorder in his hand is enough, providing Dr. McCoy with everything he needs to know.

And it... yeah. That's all concerning. Nerve damage, radiation exposure... He looks askance at Raleigh over the small device. )

'Drive suit'? What sort of work do you do back home, Raleigh?

I was a jaeger pilot.

[ And, realizing that isn't much, because everyone else here except the two doctors aren't aware of what that means. ]

They're giant mechs, built to fight kaiju. Takes two pilots, they share the load.

I'll take that action. You weren't too bad when we met up.

Though it seems you're sufferin' from some old injuries.

Hey, Erik. Sounds good, you free now or wanna meet up later?

Yeah, got some old war stuff acting up. It's nothing a little PT wont fix.

Yeah, that's kinda how I was feeling about it. It's weird having downtime after all...that.

Nerve damage from my drivesuit. Sometimes they overheat if the jaeger sustains too much damage.

Yeah. Usually people get antsy during it, but if you keep yourself occupied, it ain't half bad.

[ interesting. ]

It's a type of body armor Rangers wear to interface with the jaegers and control them. Big...two hundred plus foot machines built to fight equally big kaiju.

[ woah. ]

So you're basically a mecha pilot fighting kaiju like Godzilla 'n shit? No gonna lie, that sounds dope.

[ laugh! ]

When you put it like that, pretty much. Yeah, that's what I am.

[ Was? Will there even be a program after Pitfall? He knows the mission is a success from Newt, but beyond that, he isn't sure what the future holds for an old Vet like him. ]

Yeah, I gotta admit...it was pretty damn badass.

[ For a while, anyway. Til, you know. Things inevitably went south. ]

The war ended, actually. So I guess with that...I technically retired. [ so he's told. ] Not a lot of need for giant robots when the monsters are gone, you know?

Pretty sure you can find needs . . . but I guess bureacrats wouldn't see it that way.

No. They're the reason the whole program gort shut down in the first place. It was a whole...thing.

Yeah. . . I can imagine.

Yeah. It was pretty frustrating. They scrapped the program in favor of a wall.

The medical team is kinda lacking at the moment but I can help. [there was a reason put out a call on the network recently about it but hearing his question, she needs a couple more details] Are you looking for a doctor because you just got injured or existing injuries you have?

They're older, existing injuries. Nothing sustained on a mission or anything like that. Nerve damage, mostly.
