hey guys, my name is Dusty Fields (go ahead and laugh, I do)
anyway, after some conversations earlier I thought maybe it'd be useful to organize some stuff with the kitchen and food and all that. partly because it'd help with rationing and partly because not everyone here can cook probably
anyway, at home I cook for a lot of people all at once so I'm pretty used to planning meals in bulk on the cheap so I'm volunteering to take that on for now. I saw a few people say they'd be interested in helping so if anyone wants to help with cooking, figuring out rationing, cleaning up the kitchen, or whatever else, let me know? either here or you can text me individually
also if anyone wants to help but can't cook I can teach them the basics if they hang around while I cook
thanks anyway, for reading and stuff. looking forward to hearing from people

[ He had to throw in that little self brag. ]
That being said, obviously I can lend a hand if it's needed.
With all of these new arrivals, it's going to be bullshit dealing with what food we have if we don't get another drop soon.
It'd be nice if the locked area was hiding some kind of hydroponic system. And nicer if we could access the god damned wing in the first place.

yeah, the rationing part is the part I'm worried about. the last thing anyone needs is people starving and getting weak if we have to do missions and all
that would be nice. but we can't access it so shouldn't we just work with what we have to work with? maybe there's someone here who's smart enough to build a hydroponic system in the space we do have

[ Someone just has to be a cranky old man about everything. ]
Setting one up would be quite an undertaking. But if someone did have that kind of skill, it'd be extremely useful.

It's good of you to take this on. Not everyone would do that.

[The compliment catches him a bit off guard. It doesn't seem like something that not everyone would do.]
thanks. I don't think it's that special, but maybe that's just how my brother raised me

[ So much potato soup, you have no idea ]
You have a good brother, then.

[ He's so, so tempted by the offer of cooking lessons, but he'll just turn up the first time Dusty is in the kitchen instead of making a fuss about it. There's too much to organize right now to bother him with it, in Flynn's mind. ]

I'm used to rationing because of circumstances back home so I can help with that to keep inventory of what we do have between food and supplies. I don't know how to cook much so I'd need to learn but in the meantime I don't mind pitching in for kitchen clean up either.

I'm completely willing to teach you, especially if you can help with rationing stuff, I'm not great at that kind of thing because I had a totally spoiled upbringing on a farm and never had to worry about it. that's way more daunting to me than cooking for a huge group of people
no subject
It was the complete opposite for me. I've practically grown up on having to ration food and supplies but yeah we can definitely learn from each other on this.

I'm River Song.
But I won't be much help in a kitchen, I'm afraid.
no subject
haha that's fine. if you want to learn I can teach you, if not then it's just nice to meet you. I'm sure everyone here has something they're really good at that's useful anyway

I am glad there are others interesting in making sure everyone here is well fed. I'm embarrassed to say that I did venture into the kitchen and became somewhat intimidated by the machines they have placed there. I do like the machine with cold magic, but the one with the heat that made loud sounds gave me a fright.
❰ she's talking about a dishwasher, oops. ❱

[It does take him a moment to try to work out what she means - cold magic sounds like a fridge, and also like wherever she comes from has almost no technology. The heat and loud sounds is confusing for a moment, but after a minute it clicks.]
if you've never used appliances (the machines you mentioned) there's no shame in not knowing how they work or being intimidated! it's just a matter of learning, and those ones are pretty easy to pick up. I can show you if you want
