[ if someone told clarice she'd be reaching out to the rest of her cohort almost the instant she finds her footing on the station, she'd have laughed in their face. frankly, she would have preferred to keep her head down, stay out of the way until she was needed.

but some things were necessary, and dealing with a whole set of people whose backgrounds and experiences she had no clue about necessitated some information-gathering.

does it mean something to you or something you're looking for? [from a guess she can tell it might relate to mutations and while that technically does make something come to the forefront of her mind with the state of things back home, she doubts it is the same thing]

No. We don't have anything like that beyond what you'd read in books.

they're pretty common where i'm from
so common you'd think there wouldn't be such stupid prejudice about it
but people are sometimes miraculously stupid

That sucks you had to deal what back where you're from. I think you'll find here at least people are more open and accepting of it.
