video; un: rita.farr β€” aka rescue mission proposal

[ rita farr never really knows when too much is too much. for all that the group had insisted against this self-proclaimed status of being heroes, it hasn't fully detered her away from the idea that they could still try to be β€” not for titles or glory, but β€” for the sheer fact that there are people that may depend on them.

and when viveca announces their latest mission, with only twenty minutes to spare, the announcement that the planet's residents may very well be meeting their doom in ten days has her swiftly pulling up a set of binders to take with her hastily on their transport.

it's the next day, after they've spent the night amongst the hivawei's celebration that rita makes her appearance on the network again, this time without the giddy whimsical air of before, but rather a determined, motivated one as she's shown opening the binders in front of her, neatly organized mission notes, most that she hand scribbled on her own from her network readings, that she begins flipping the pages through as she speaks. ]

Okay, everyone, we've used up a night already and we only have nine days left. Which means putting on your thinking caps immediately if we want to save this community.

[ because, yes, she's still maintaining that sense of hope despite viveca's insistence of being "too late". they have to at least try, don't they? ]

Now, I've through all the mission notes from before, trying to see if there's something that we can use. Bear with me, I'm just throwing out ideasβ€”

On Giva, when Sedorum was being destroyed, I read about how portals were used to transport the people there to safety. I know the range needs to be much longer than that, probably, but instead of transporting to, say, another planet that's too far, we can build some sort of craft for them to board. We have all kinds of inventors here to make something, right?

[ maybe? she presses her lips tight together, flipping some more pages. ]

I've also learned that when science fails, we can consider ... magic. Maybe a way of bringing people's powers together to craft some kind of shield orβ€”

[ that one's especially a long shot. but her stops at a page, finger pointed to a name as she looks up again. ]

That wizard man β€” Remi. He gave us a letter on Xrisora and he told us to burn it if we ever needed his help. As long as we had that necklace or earring with us. Maybe this is a time as any to call in the favor.

[ she seems tense, curling her fingers tight against her palm, trying to keep herself from shaking. ]

Look, whatever it is we do, we should talk about ideas. We have nine days. Some of us can seek out the orb. The rest of us .... the rest of us should try to save these people. At least try.

Leaders have to shoulder those burdens. Not because they can solve everything. Or stop it or make it better. But a leader can't lead through what they don't know about, even when there's no good answers. No solutions.

What do you think is the point of telling them?

Letting their leaders plan ahead for how to handle the fear that'll be coming when the rest of their people know something's wrong. Even if their decision is to lie that it'll be fine. Or if they decide to let their people know. I have no idea what they'll decide, but it should be their decision.

We're not meant to be here. If they begin to realise something is happening, they can decide then what to tell their people

Only we were sent here, because of the orb, so we're meant to pass through. Have guests never told you of things they witnessed on their way through?

There is a difference between passing through and noting that the weeds are taking over the rubbish bin and telling them that they are going to die.

One of them has a purpose, the other is cruelty.

Both have a purpose. One's also the cruelty of the world.

Can you imagine what it is like, knowing you are going to die? There's not enough time, not enough words, never the right words, at the end you think about everything you didn't have time to say or everyone you didn't have time to farewell, you end up with regret pressing in from all sides, every tiny thing you've ever failed to make up for and now there is no time. There is never enough time.

Their lives have worth and meaning now, however mundane the day to day may seem. It shouldn't be upended because of our impotence and guilt.

I can.

( imagine it. and the helplessness. but she prefers to rail against it, anyway. and she's not sure why it's the same thing as them feeling impotent: surely, none of them thought they were gods, did they? it was a rock. none of them told the rock to go, did they? pulled it off course. this wasn't a conjuction, as far as she knew. )

Surviving what was supposed to kill you feels something similar. Especially if you're the only one. Only the regrets don't end. The words you didn't say enough don't get said. The pain doesn't stop because you survived. You keep going until the next thing tries to kill you, and they're all there. Still with you. And nothing can ever change it.

I know

[ the end of any argument from jyn. she had one (1) emotion and that was disgusting so now she is going to find a cave to die in. ]
