[ It truly had not been his intention to make any sort of announcements over the general network. He was gathering plenty of information from the communications others were putting up and while he did like the sound of his own voice, Lockwood could recognizes when there was an inundation of requests, raising the risk of something being lost.

But as he sifted through the wide range of helpful intelligence, he kept coming back to a missing piece. A piece that Lockwood knew he relied upon back home and which he also recognized was not in his wheelhouse.

He needed George Karim. Or in this case a George stand-in.

Lockwood started to record the message as video, then stopped and decided to go audio instead. His voice often provided an image of age to go with maturity, where his face and lanky frame screamed teenager. Best to go with your strengths, when admitting to a weakness. The voice coming across the network is deep, cheerful, his diction crisp and clear, despite his posh accent. Taken together, his tone might make one imagine a large smile to go along with the words, if one were given to such imaginations.]

Hello.

Apologies to add yet another introduction, but I will do my best to keep mine brief.

My name is Anthony [ his pronunciation drops the "h" an-tun-nee ] Lockwood, please feel free to call me Lockwood.

Back in my world, I guess you would call it, I am the head of my own agency called Lockwood and Co. We're ghost specialists, for lack of a better term. Not overly important here, except that in working with my team back home I've learned the invaluable important of meticulous research, the gathering of information about a mission or a job, before actually conducting the field work.

[ He's stretching the truth a little here. Oh he knows the importance of information and research but Lockwood would rather wash dishes before picking up a book. In addition, more often than not, he doesn't give George half the time the younger man needs to do a thorough job before Lockwood is racing head long where angels fear to tread, dragging Lucy and George along in his wake.

But those are minor details and not pertinent to this situation. Well. Except for the fact that Lockwood has access to Sabriel's file; he's just trying to avoid having to read it himself. ]

By sending this message out, publicly, I was hoping to learn who, among our team here, are considered our go to researchers and scientists when we're out in the field?

I am laboring under the assumption that we all play to our strengths, and mine is certainly neither research or science. George, a friend back home, has taught me to respect those who have the dedication to find nuggets of gold in deluge of information that can otherwise cloud an objective and I'd love to know who I can ask for help when I've gotten myself into the weeds, and need to clarify my understanding of our situation.

[ Lockwood may always keep his own counsel when it came to his final decisions regarding action, and George might feel unappreciated at times. But Lockwood was working on that perception, because he did recognize George's brilliance when it comes to all things research and scientific. ]

[ rita farr never really knows when too much is too much. for all that the group had insisted against this self-proclaimed status of being heroes, it hasn't fully detered her away from the idea that they could still try to be β€” not for titles or glory, but β€” for the sheer fact that there are people that may depend on them.

and when viveca announces their latest mission, with only twenty minutes to spare, the announcement that the planet's residents may very well be meeting their doom in ten days has her swiftly pulling up a set of binders to take with her hastily on their transport.

it's the next day, after they've spent the night amongst the hivawei's celebration that rita makes her appearance on the network again, this time without the giddy whimsical air of before, but rather a determined, motivated one as she's shown opening the binders in front of her, neatly organized mission notes, most that she hand scribbled on her own from her network readings, that she begins flipping the pages through as she speaks. ]

Okay, everyone, we've used up a night already and we only have nine days left. Which means putting on your thinking caps immediately if we want to save this community.

[ because, yes, she's still maintaining that sense of hope despite viveca's insistence of being "too late". they have to at least try, don't they? ]

Now, I've through all the mission notes from before, trying to see if there's something that we can use. Bear with me, I'm just throwing out ideasβ€”

On Giva, when Sedorum was being destroyed, I read about how portals were used to transport the people there to safety. I know the range needs to be much longer than that, probably, but instead of transporting to, say, another planet that's too far, we can build some sort of craft for them to board. We have all kinds of inventors here to make something, right?

[ maybe? she presses her lips tight together, flipping some more pages. ]

I've also learned that when science fails, we can consider ... magic. Maybe a way of bringing people's powers together to craft some kind of shield orβ€”

[ that one's especially a long shot. but her stops at a page, finger pointed to a name as she looks up again. ]

That wizard man β€” Remi. He gave us a letter on Xrisora and he told us to burn it if we ever needed his help. As long as we had that necklace or earring with us. Maybe this is a time as any to call in the favor.

[ she seems tense, curling her fingers tight against her palm, trying to keep herself from shaking. ]

Look, whatever it is we do, we should talk about ideas. We have nine days. Some of us can seek out the orb. The rest of us .... the rest of us should try to save these people. At least try.

[ of course, rita sets up a visual because the starlet always wants to be seen (except when she doesn't). at the present time, she seems rather enthusiastic like she's fighting a proud grin, one that suggests she's ready to give herself a pat on the back at any moment. ]

Good evening, everyone! For those who don't know me, I am Rita Farr, your Team Morale Coordinator.

[ wait, who assigned her that position? ]

As you all well know, we have been joining mission after mission with the intention of collecting orbs to protect the world and save towns from devastation. In a way, you might say we're ... space-travelling superheroes!

And as any superhero would tell you, it's very important to have codenames for our mission. Obviously, we often obtain our very own undercover civilian names. But in the line of duty, when we're in the heat of the fight, we should just as well have assigned titles to continue preserving our identities.

As the Ximilia's Team Morale Coordinator β€” [ again, who voted her into that position? ] I took it upon myself to select carefully crafted codenames for each and every one of you.

[ she then holds up a sheet of paper, featuring a list of all of the orbers, each with another name printed beside them. ]

You will find this list posted in the Mess Hall. Please take a moment at your best convenience to study the list and memorize each of the names listed for future use. Though I worked very hard to select them β€” [ she clears her throat, brushing her hair back. ] I suppose that if you have any issue with the name chosen for you, we can discuss making possible changes. Though I don't see why anyone would want to.

( please note that none of the above is to be taken seriously and is in good fun! though rita very much likes to believe she has team leader qualifications and is entirely in her right to make assignments. but she's very bad at selecting names so if some of it seems nonsensical, it's on brand. she went by what she knows or assumes or whatever she likes. )

[Sabriel's at the local healer's, in bed propped up with a bunch of pillows, looking worn and unhealthily pale. It's been several days since their adventure in the Silver Caverns, and she's come out of the drugged sleep she was put in as the healers worked to deal with her stomach wound, and Sabriel... has been listening to their orders to not move. But her bedside his piled high with books and parchment- she's clearly been keeping herself busy.]

So it seems that the stories of the Silver Caverns were not exaggerating- soon after entering, we were set upon by three basilisks- luckily, it seems healing magic can halt their petrification.

[And why is it that only clerics have such a useful spell? But Sabriel presses on, her voice businesslike as she details]

We wounded them, and set off down the tunnel they came through. But as we went further in, we found a portal. We were unable to enter, but could hear the sound of more basilisks on the other side. And we found more passages, leading to more portals, which seem to produce a variety of monsters- vampire bats, clay golems, and twig blights are the ones we know of for sure, but we heard buzzing behind another, and saw signs of a gigantic serpent in another chamber.

At the end- the fight went badly. There were golems, and these plant monsters- Clarke, Dimitri, Rodimus, Jyn, Cassian- thank you, all of you, for getting me out of there. I owe you my life, and a great debt.

[But the moment of heartfelt thanks aside... Sabriel made this post public to share information. So gritting her teeth, she presses on.]

Did any members of the Songbird Brigade mention the portals when they spoke of the Silver Caverns? Or are these a more recent phenomenon? None of the stories of the caverns mention them, just that they're full of monsters.

If you choose to enter, bring a cleric- or several clerics. And a bestiary. I'm attaching a map- it's crude, but it shows the path we took, and what we found in each chamber, along with my best estimate of the distance and direction of each passage. There's a central chamber, with ten passages beside the entrance leading away from it. Each leads to a portal we can't enter, that spits out a monster, or monsters. Each portal chamber is connected to the two next to it, except for one where the path leads back to the main chamber, and another that leads out to a forest entrance. I've looked up all the creatures we fought in the bestiary, and attached notes on them as well.

And now for my speculation. It's likely that the portals are the result of the orb, although whether the result of a bargain, the price of a bargain, or simply the result of its chaotic and corrupting nature, I cannot guess. We found no sign of the orb, or any human activity within the caverns- but it's possible the orb is concealing itself, possibly within one of those portals. My sense of magic is somewhat dulled in this form. But the simpler, more likely explanation is that it's not there.

[Although while the orb has certainly corrupted and twisted its surroundings without a bargain... Sabriel would expect it to turn the local wildlife more monstrous, rather than opening portals to summon more.]

[ ugh talking to people, but needs must. ]

Oi, listen up.

[ she knows the network isn't like talking in front of a crowd and yet, she looks like she is containing the restless energy of a lioness but her voice is clear and strong like she is used to arguing her point. ]

I've spoken to Olivia. Apparently when whatever happened to the last crew happened, she was damaged but as the station was fixed so was she. All the glitches and malfunctions this week are because she was trying to settle herself back in. She's very sorry.

[ is she, jyn? olivia is free to correct jyn but she has a feeling that isn't going to happen. ]

Olivia's sole purpose as an AI is to protect the crew aboard the Ximilia and to help us get the orbs. She's already been doing her job, tracking the crew who were flagged as being so dangerous they specifically have devices to punish them in case their violence turns on us. [ her lips purse, but she doesn't linger there. ]

This is Olivia's home and she doesn't want to be pushed out now and since she knows trust has to be earned, she's given us this. [ jyn holds up a small silvery disc between two fingers. ] It's a containment protocol for the orbs. The Ximilia was specifically built to contain the orbs, but the protocol to contain them was erased and the station isn't the one restraining the orbs anymore. She wrote us a new protocol.

If you want to look at it, go for it. [ she's already had cassian peruse the code and she doesn't care about other people's opinions but she has to at least pretend she does for the sake of olivia's continued existence. ]

We really need to know exactly what happened to the last crew and Olivia couldn't tell me that, she was too damaged at the time. [ so if someone could illuminate them. that would be swell. all they were even told was that olivia was corrupted and needs to be gotten rid of, not a lot to go with and jyn is used to missions where the parameters are "we're winging it" but now that more information has presented itself, they need to reassess. ] Usually if an entire crew dies, they tell the replacements why. Cautionary tale and all.

[ she gestures expansively, losing some of the polish she'd dressed her words up with. ] That's it.

[ talk amongst yourselves. ]

[ there is a short video of a cleaning robot droid following the person filming, trying and failing to suck up the laces of a pair of untied boots. it catches one shoelace before the boot gets yanked back with a quiet huff of laughter and a murmur of "stop, i'll take you to sweep up the sand in our bunk". ]

Does it have a name? Are there other droids or does she do everything on board?

[ she's not a huge fan of droids, but this one is cute as heck. ]
