[Newt comes shuffling into view on the screen, holding a cup of coffee in his hand with a bag of what seems to be Sour Patch Kids harrowingly hanging out from beneath the pinky finger of the very same hand. Disheveled but more than happy to provide his services after dragging himself out of bed, he taps his knuckle on the chalkboard beside him — one that used to be Hermann Gottlieb's, may he rest in peace (in a not dead way — may he rest in peace on a beach or something while wholly alive and thriving).]

Noticed an influx of new and kinda-new faces over the last few days or weeks or whatever.

So here's my handy dandy welcome board! Recently updated, to keep with the times.

Read it over and get a feel for how this place goes; I'm gonna finish off this coffee before I take any questions.

[ Each time Sean tries to reply, the words come together wrong. Each kind word gets twisted by embarrassment or, worse, jealousy. Maybe it wouldn't be obvious to the girl on the other side of the earpiece, but Sean was all too aware. And maybe just a little too sensitive.

Video chatting was always easier, right? Apparently that thought was all that mattered, mentally switching from text to video of Sean himself. He looks a little startled, for all the worry is only communicated in his one unbandaged eye. The boy's head is recently shaved, a byproduct of surgery he wasn't conscious to remember, and wearing clothes that don't fit him well. Such is the way of the supply drop room. ]

Sorry for the sudden video, I'm just not used to like. [ He pushes a hand over his other eye, a sort of subconscious gesture from when he had hair. Whoops. ] The mind reading, I guess.

And yeah, the eye is cool. Doesn't even hurt, I just have to clean it out every so often. And it makes drawing like... a lot harder. [ He holds up his sketchbook, maybe a little shyly. ] But I have some old stuff, if you wanna see?

[ there is a half-second before iris' own visage flickers onto the screen, his smile bright and perhaps over-eager. there were plenty of teenagers in the tower, but iris could really only say he knew a handful of them (and even then, that's being generous). the opportunity to be around other teenagers, especially ones who share interests with him, had been a pipe dream for so long, he'd almost forgotten to even hope for it. being on the ximilia has started to give him that kind of companionship he's learned to crave for, so he might be just a little too enthusiastic for the chance to befriend a like mind. ]

Yeah! [ oh, hah, that came out a lot louder than he intended... ] Yeah, I'd like that.

[ The Yeah! might've been enough to interrupt Sean's rambling train of thought, but it was Iris's face that takes the brunt of the responsibility. He blinks hard at him, somehow both staring and looking vaguely horrified at the same time.

... And he holds that face for a few seconds before thinking of something to say, so feel free to react to this fellow teen in his full awkward splendor, Iris. ]

[ o.....kay? was he too eager? he was too eager, wasn't he? definitely scared the guy off.

okay! that's fine!! time for damage control!!! ]

Doesn't have to be now, uh. You're probably busy chatting with others, right? We can — later's fine.

[ iris tries not to visibly squirm now that he's on camera, but it's not hard to catch how his cheeks color in embarrassment. ]

[ The voice is another hit to Sean's prior perception, embarrassment creeping up his neck and threatening to show over the video if he didn't take a breath and catch it in time. ]

No--! No. It's--it's cool. [ Too late. Thank god he wasn't pale, skin darkening rather than glowing brightly with his flush. ] I just--I thought--actually, it doesn't matter what I thought.

[ So Iris was... a boy. And a boy who Sean had all but signed up for putting out in exchange for gouche. Now that he's thinking of it, was that joke any better when he thought Iris was a girl? It's these thoughts and many more that are streaking through Sean's head now, grasping his sketchbook too his chest like a pitifully small shield. ]

Anyway! [ Now it's Sean's turn to yell, flipping to a random page unthinkingly and holding it open for Iris to see. ] Art!
