Video | welcome, hallo, buenos días, ohayō, etc, etc! | UN: Newt
[Newt comes shuffling into view on the screen, holding a cup of coffee in his hand with a bag of what seems to be Sour Patch Kids harrowingly hanging out from beneath the pinky finger of the very same hand. Disheveled but more than happy to provide his services after dragging himself out of bed, he taps his knuckle on the chalkboard beside him — one that used to be Hermann Gottlieb's, may he rest in peace (in a not dead way — may he rest in peace on a beach or something while wholly alive and thriving).]
Noticed an influx of new and kinda-new faces over the last few days or weeks or whatever.
So here's my handy dandy welcome board! Recently updated, to keep with the times.
Read it over and get a feel for how this place goes; I'm gonna finish off this coffee before I take any questions.
[As he takes the world's most obnoxious-sounding sip and burns his tongue, here's the board in question:]

[And then, after a bit of time, he turns the board over to the other side:]

[No worries, current crew, if you can't get one of those introduction papers in person!
Because he's attached them in file format, too.]

The technology to play old movies like that was lost some time ago, so it's been awhile

but I get the impression that this isn't a no VCRs situation right?
[ Look at her being all savvy about multiversal things. Or trying to be at least. ]
what are some of your other favorites?
hey can i trouble u for a <big> tag on your text btw? it shows up real tiny on my browser
But you're not wrong exactly. I first watched it aboard a space craft, and there was only so much that the crew could take with them when leaving Earth in the first place -- and much of even that was lost when the fleet crashed
I can't think of many specific others offhand, but I always enjoyed the talking animal ones, and those where humans came to befriend other species or otherworldly beings
[cannOT imagine why. not like it hits deeply close to home or anything!]
np!
...Nope, she doesn't want to know what happened. Time to gravitate toward something safe instead of asking for more details. ]
so how does that compare now that you're here?
since it seems like we've got all of that!
for all you know you might even be talking to somebody who checks one of those boxes~
[ Cute that you think you're the only one not fully human in this conversation, Hibiki ]
tyy
[But in the opposite direction than she thinks ha ha ha haaa. Not that he intends to disabuse her of that notion out here in public. Exactly three people have learned he's not human in this crew, and he prefers to keep it that way as long as he can.]
The people I've met have been very kind, though, so it's been an easier process than it might have been

that's good
really good
this kind of thing is what they write books about. things back home aren't nearly this advanced
we have people who spend expended periods of time in space, but we haven't sent people far out there
the Earth I'm from isn't nearly as advanced
it's kinda overwhelming tbh

But for what it's worth, the crew is pretty good at answering questions when they come up!

I'm just not sure I'm at the point where I know what to ask
if you know what I mean
what are some things you wish you knew when you first arrived that you know now?

That's a bit too heavy for a casual conversation, though, especially over the network, so he ... pivots off to the left a little.]
if you get souvenirs on other planets, be sure to hang onto them when it's time for us to go
once anyone touches the orb we all teleport back immediately
you don't want to waste your money!
[This is also, perhaps, a sideways method of suggesting that one get everything they consider important in order before it's time for someone to touch the orb without getting too serious about it.]
