Video | welcome, hallo, buenos días, ohayō, etc, etc! | UN: Newt

[Newt comes shuffling into view on the screen, holding a cup of coffee in his hand with a bag of what seems to be Sour Patch Kids harrowingly hanging out from beneath the pinky finger of the very same hand. Disheveled but more than happy to provide his services after dragging himself out of bed, he taps his knuckle on the chalkboard beside him — one that used to be Hermann Gottlieb's, may he rest in peace (in a not dead way — may he rest in peace on a beach or something while wholly alive and thriving).]

Noticed an influx of new and kinda-new faces over the last few days or weeks or whatever.

So here's my handy dandy welcome board! Recently updated, to keep with the times.

Read it over and get a feel for how this place goes; I'm gonna finish off this coffee before I take any questions.

[As he takes the world's most obnoxious-sounding sip and burns his tongue, here's the board in question:]

[And then, after a bit of time, he turns the board over to the other side:]

[No worries, current crew, if you can't get one of those introduction papers in person!

Because he's attached them in file format, too.]

i will say they make a rather awful sound. they can sound a bit like chickens sometimes.
i would agree. bad ideas keep life exciting.

they...cluck?

[Vash only vaguely knows what noise a chicken is supposed to make from old earth books and movies from a hundred and fifty years ago, he is not equipped for this conversation at all.]

that's so strange! and kind of cute in its own way
what kind of mischief do foxes play in your stories?

not exactly. it's sort of like the sound a brood of chickens might make when they're angry at you and want you to die. or at least for you to exit their general vicinity.

[ rarely is someone equipped for a conversation with nikolai. ]

oh, the usual. they steal hens from farms and drive the local farmers mad. there was once a fox who was caught in a steel trap and was surely to be made into stew by nightfall, but he made a deal with a pack of fleas to allow them to live in his fur and feed on him without complaint for one year if they would attack the hunter who owned the trap instead. that gave the fox time to get away.
i suppose that's not mischief as much as survival.

i can't say i've had the experience, haha
have chickens and foxes gotten angry at you often?
that does sound more like survival than mischief, though, even though it must be frustrating for the farmers

chickens, yes. when i was younger i did have a bad habit of chasing them around my good friend's farm. it seemed extremely entertaining at the time, not so much now.
are there any animals you like more than others?

oh gosh
i can see where they'd be upset! haha

i don't really know much about animals in general though...mostly i've only read about them in books
but horses always seemed interesting? birds too i think

[Maybe he feels some kinship toward them, as Vash the Stampede. Even the wildest of these, too, are able to find a place alongside humanity.]

birds are good on a plate. i do have a fondness for horses, though. my favorite back home is a piebald pony named punchline. he's perfect because he reacts to nothing, sometimes not even me. do you enjoy riding?
