Greetings.

My name is Alucard. I am a new arrival. No, I did not fill up the "form" as I found the criteria to be quite baffling and useless.

I do need to state that I am a half-vampire. Yes, I have fangs. No, I will not bite you. I do not require blood and you can go about your day in peace.

And no, I will not bite you if you have a kink for vampires. Find a sharp fork instead.

I can't imagine a proper vampire managing such secrecy for long. Not without feeding.

My situation is unique.

You're probably right about that. Secrecy is a pretty difficult thing to keep for everyone here, given some of the shit that happens on our missions.

[ananym]

Such as?

[coordination]

For starters, the orb gives us additional things to do during our missions. Sometimes it's something stupid, like "decide everything for a whole day by flipping a coin," but at other times, it'll ask you to reveal something about yourself. A fear or a secret or a wish, for example. Those additional little requests in particular are optional, though.

But we've been on two missions, now, where our own memories have been pulled from our minds and displayed for others to witness.

How is that possible? Magic?

[coordination]

The orbs themselves do possess it. But beyond that, plenty of the worlds we've been sent to on missions are ripe with it.

Plenty of our teammates, too.

[ananym]

I could see magic replicating such things easily.

[coordination]

Even seeing what I've seen of it during my time here, some of it still manages to catch me off guard.

Raising the dead to world-hopping and everything in between.

Unfortunately, I am familiar with all of those.

Then a lot of this may not be so strange for you to witness.

Magic and the like doesn't exist where I'm from. So it was a hell of a thing to have to behold and accept as a reality when I first got here.

Yes, I can see it would be disarming in that circumstance.

I have always lived alongside magic and science. And I was well educated.

[coordination]

Funny enough, I've since learned how to use magic, thanks to one of our teammates with the ability to share hers.

Impressive that you've learned it.

I figured out very early on, that it would be an incredibly useful skill to have if the first mission we were sent on was any indicator of how absolutely wild everything else was going to be.

That, and Sabriel is an incredible teacher.

Learning it in a short span of time is certainly impressive. I assume it has less to do with intent.

[coordination]

My people are capable of picking up new talents in a short span of time. So with the right motivation for it, learning Charter Magic wasn't too difficult once I realized how important it'd be to at least know the basics of. Healing, small elemental casts, for example.

In my world, magic comes from intent. Spells, runes, knowledge matter as well.

But they cannot force a change of reality without will power.
