[ the feed starts with a very tall man with long blond hair, dressed in archaic clothing and a long black cloak. a large scar is visible on his chest. ]

Greetings.

My name is Alucard. I am a new arrival. No, I did not fill up the "form" as I found the criteria to be quite baffling and useless.

I do need to state that I am a half-vampire. Yes, I have fangs. No, I will not bite you. I do not require blood and you can go about your day in peace.

And no, I will not bite you if you have a kink for vampires. Find a sharp fork instead.

I think that last one was mostly meant as a joke, but you don't have to answer all of them, you know? It's just for fun, anyway.

Haha you think? Getting to know each other a little seems fun to me, at least.

You have to start somewhere.

[There's just the eensiest bit of crankiness in his tone. Meryl would probably be proud.]

I don't think you can outgrow books.

[Or candy tbh. His century+ old ass is smashing that x to doubt SO hard on the notion that you can simply stop enjoying sweets one day!]

[...Point. For the most part, people learn at least the basics in No Man's Land, especially within the seven cities. But he supposes he can't take it as a given that everyone aboard the Ximilia is literate.]

Even so. Stories aren't just for children, whatever form they might take.

[The thing is it's not even about the survey so much as it's about Newt having made the survey with a genuine earnest desire for people to get to know each other, and his hangups about people making fun of it. He doesn't know how to be defensive on his own behalf, but he can have a little defensiveness for someone else's sake, as a treat.]

Understanding takes time and more shared experiences than some books, sure. But it's a place to start finding common ground. It's not as though people are generally willing to bare their soul to strangers right off the bat.
