So I was thinking for all of us that are new here, maybe we could all share our skills and expertise. Just so we know who to go to and who to ask for help. I imagine asking for help and knowing where to turn is essential on these missions. Or so I've read.

I'll start off. My name is Ahsoka. I . . . was a commander in an army. I've done strategy, tactics, guerilla warfare. I'm also trained in martial arts and swordsmanship.

Also, I'm a decent mechanic. For people who seem to be at odds with the technology here, I can give you a run through. I'm from space, if that helps.

And this is what I really look like. No staring or touching, please.

I'm not with the army anymore. That's what it means.

[ His brain catches up with his mouth and he realizes that he knows multiple people who ditched the military and wouldn't like being heckled about it by strangers, even if they did volunteer the "was." Hopefully she didn't take an anti-ship sword to the cockpit on her way out. ]

Fine. Whatever. Where are you?

[ she blinks, curious. ]

Right now, I'm in the kitchen.

[lostdestiny]

[ The connection goes dead. ]

[ And a few minutes later, Shinn shows up in the kitchen -- the station isn't that big, so the idea of talking by video is weird to him. He flops casually into a chair ... and is pretty clearly focusing hard on looking at her eyes instead of the montrals (is it a hat) or the face markings. He's trying! But she is his first non-human person. ]

So you were with, what, some kind of commando unit?

[ That seems like the obvious fit for army-martial arts-guerrilla work-sword. Everything from his tone to his posture to his word choice is loose and casual, but there's real curiosity in his voice. And he's showing zero skepticism about being a commander at her age. ]

[ her lips twitch as if caught between amusement and irritation. it smoothes itself out quickly enough. ]

It was a legion. I was second in command.

Why do you want to know?

[lostdestiny]

Because "maybe we could all share our skills and expertise."

[ Okay, that part comes out a little snide. ]

I'm a pilot.

[ Said with complete confidence that implies a really damn good one. And she can easily pick up that he's with some vaguely military organization by the uniform he's wearing. (Emphasis on "vaguely," given that he can't be bothered to do up the collar. Normally Lunamaria is around in a miniskirt to make his own dress code issues look de minimis by comparison.) ]

Really.

[ interesting. she holds her half-formed smile still. ]

Of a starship?

[ His brows furrow very slightly for a moment at "starship"; because his world is in the inner-planets-plus-Jupiter-sometimes stage of development, "starship" isn't how anyone would describe spacefaring vessels. ]

Mobile suits.

[ It's clear that he expects the phrase to be completely comprehensible. ]

[ ahsoka repeats that in a more skeptical tone. ]

Mobile suits. Like . . . mechanical suits?

[ Weird reaction! Mobile suits are ubiquitous at home; any civilian, let alone someone in a military group, should know the term. ]

Mm.

[ He fishes in his jacket pockets and pulls out the few-inches-tall replica of this guy that he made during his TDM armory shenanigans, with a small exasperated but fond huff. Exasperated that it’s not a hundred time bigger, fond because Impulse was a good suit, and having this tiny version is like keeping a memento of Luna. ]

Like this, but eighteen meters.

[ ahsoka squints at it curiously before glancing at shinn. ]

How mobile can you be if it's eighteen meters?

[lostdestiny]

[ He taps the main thrusters on the back gently. ]

As mobile as the pilot can handle.

[ Well, not completely true; Shinn moves faster than poor Impulse can keep up with, but he’s not going to say anything negative about it in front of her. But he wasn’t going to try making nuclear-powered Destiny in the armory and risk screwing up the reactor specs. ]

Why? What’s your air cover using?

[ If she tells him how many Gs Clone Wars fighters can do, they’re going straight back to the Armory. ]

[unjedi]

[ the thrusters seem small for something this big, but she'll take his word for it. he seems to know about this at least. ]

Air cover? Our ship accelerate at lightspeed.

[lostdestiny]

Come on.

[ That's so unbelievable that at first he just won't engage with it. It violates basic laws of physics. But. If the stuff powering this station can mess with time, maybe a ship can ignore that sort of thing...? He frowns a bit as doubt creeps in. ]

How does the ship hold up -- how does the pilot hold up -- ?

[unjedi]

[ she replies, a little distant since this is everyday life for her. ]

There's a special drive that enables us to make lightspeed jumps. The make of the ship protects us from the gravitational force.

[ She has his total interest! ]

[unjedi]

[ show him??? ]

I guess we could try the simulation room. Recreate it.

That or the Armory. How much can you remember about the specs?

[ He's scooping up little-Impulse, which will always be bae, and heading toward the door. ]

[unjedi]

Not much. I'll do what I can but you'd have better luck asking my master.

[lostdestiny]

[ Weird word choice to describe a person? ]

Yeah, but you're here.

[ she nods. ]

Like I said. I'll do what I can.

[ He's already heading down the hall, sorry if she wanted lunch or something. ]

What do you do with ships that fast? You could go from Earth to the moon in like a second.
