so uh question

what's on the north end of the station? anybody know? I mean the rest of the place is cool and all but going wherever I want is kind of my whole thing these days and I can't get there which is

weird

or jump between universes anymore

I mean HEY it's not like I want to leave or anything! if whoever's in charge is watching this network which I'm 100% sure they are haha please don't kick me out. just saying, the whole multiverse thing was kind of my ~thing~ and now it's not and it's weird/spooky that they can even take that away to begin with but

yeah anyway

north end of the station is a big ol question mark

also does anybody have some spare yttrium lying around? anyone from the science/phd crowd? maybe some liquid nitrogen? no reason why

[Seems like the Darkling has hit the more important points, but Ryunosuke is all about transparency of information.]

The North Wing is also where the previous crew's quarters are located. We have been allowed into that section of the station during emergencies, but. It's generally off limits for a reason.

Miss Viveca is the one in charge of the network. But if I had to guess, I'd think any power changes that you might be experiencing are more likely a side effect of the Orbs. Granted, I've never had any supernatural powers myself, so I'm hardly an expert on how that works. I just know that when things turn strange, you can usually blame the orbs.

The previous crew were returned to their worlds.

I have no interest in answering that question.

What purpose do you expect such information would serve?

Then perhaps you should ask him. Naruhodo-san is quite generous with information.

You are welcome to think what you wish of me.

/sips water tbqh.

Their deaths were undone. The information serves little purpose to us now except to satiate unnecessary curiosity. If you need to be told the orbs are dangerous, there are many other examples one could use beyond that alone.

Srry I got buried and let this sit for longer than intended!

[He sees Itachi cut in, and his mind sort of goes blank for a moment. "Stunned silent" is probably the best way to put it. Because the last interaction the two of them ever had was about this topic exactly. His explanation isn't sufficient by Ryunosuke's standards, though. Not by a long shot.]

...Um. Yes.

They did.

[He'll just let that one sit a sec so you can feel BAD ABOUT YOURSELF FOR MAKING THAT JOKE, BUDDY.]

Please understand that this is a complicated and tragic story, one that I'm not about to impart the grim specifics of. But suffice to say: yes, there was another crew here before us. Something-- I think it's still not entirely clear what, but we can likely blame the orbs for this as well-- went wrong with the Commander of the station at the time. He turned on the crew. Many lives were lost, but one of the survivors was able to strike a deal with an orb, and had his lost comrades revived and returned to their own worlds... Sans their memories of the Ximilia.

THAT is the sort of power the orbs hold. My understanding is that each one is actually part of a greater whole, and the idea is that if we gather them all, whatever force is restored in doing that will be able to grant us what we seek without incurring such a cost. But on their own, each orb craves chaos, and is full of volatile power. Deals can be made with them on an individual basis, but as you have already heard: there's always a price.

[It's a reaction that makes perfect sense for a scientist who has been through the shit he's been through. From Ryu's perspective, though... Way to make him look bad, bud. People are out here being cagey about details on the old crew out of respect for Viveca and Degar's feelings. Meanwhile, Ryunosuke is toeing that line and telling people anyway because he thinks new arrivals have the right to know what they're potentially up against, and this guy just reacts to it with near complete indifference?

He doesn't regret doing it. But he also can't help but feel like Itachi is probably looking at this and judging him harshly. He's at least imagining and worrying that's the case, even if it isn't true.

Meanwhile: Nerd shit is happening, and Ryunosuke's eyes just glaze over while he frets to himself. He literally doesn't understand anything that's been said here, except for that last part.]

I can say with complete and absolute certainty that running 'tests' on the orbs is out of the question, yes.
