[ And the camera cuts to show a corner of the hallway instead, where an innocent stepladder is standing. ]

I still maintain that, save for the most opulent of rooms, a chair can serve well enough to reach the ceiling to attend to a lamp.

Sure, sure. But my point is, a stepladder has uses that a wooden or rope ladder doesn't, so the distinction is kind of important.

And yet if you say to get a ladder so that you can attend to a ceiling lamp, a person would get the appropriate ladder without needing that distinction said.

W-well-- I mean, yes, probably, but-- If you don't have clear context, it's important.

And when, pray tell, would you need someone to know a specific ladder without knowing why?

Besides this arbitrary question to everyone.

[ Desk slam! What crime are you committing with your accomplice with a ladder?! ]

Wh-- Why do you need to know the reason? Why would I say 'could I borrow a ladder to change the ceiling light' when I could just say 'could I borrow a stepladder'?

[ Seriously why is this guy getting so hung up on this. ]

I would ask why for the latter example. It's my business to know things of that nature, and the only reasons why someone would hide such a purpose tend to be of a nefarious purpose.

[ He grins, fully knowing how much of a nuisance he's being. ]

But I also recognize that consulting detectives meddle in much more than the average person.

[ Future punching Sherlock is made all the more easier by being a brat here. ]

There are apparently more than just me as I am not a singular instance of myself.

Before I arrived here on the station, I was the only consulting detective because I created the profession and the only Sherlock Holmes I knew of.

[ With him so far? ]

However, there is at least one other Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective, who lives in the future, and there is a Herlock Sholmes who seems to live roughly in my same time but has other differing qualities. Like being blond.

[ He doesn't know about Sholmes having a daughter yet. Like his older Frogwares counterpart. ]

[ Herlock Sholmes. Now that name he knows, but he would never have connected that to this man. But why would he? ]

That sounds kinda hard to believe.

And orbs bringing us to a station set in space from different places and times is?

[ Then again, evidence of some kind of pattern with him and Jo(h)n and Holmes and Watson (Watkinson and Holman) had already started to appear in his world. It's been more confirmation for what he sees. ]
