[let's talk about all that orb barrier stuff] - text (un: major.yzak.jule)
Before the location of our last mission is pinpointed, maybe we should have a discussion about what Viveca mentioned regarding the barrier holding up.
Namely, alternatives to every one of us giving up our reason for coming here. She did say to start thinking about it.
The commander's powers notwithstanding, plenty of us on this team undoubtedly possess abilities that could be offered in support. And there are plenty of people beyond us on this station who are aware of our mission and the gravity of what we're dealing with.
We've always been pretty good at coming up with solutions and contingency plans.
(( dated to after yulevibes! and consider this an open floor to tag each other to discuss ideas in prep for the voting post on the 20thalso since my ass got work ))

Y-yeah. Even if I don't personally have much to offer... There must be other people in the crew who have since changed their minds, who may have extra power to spare.

After our next mission, [as in, he wants to not think anymore about how they're going to deal with the orb containment problem,] or after our final mission?
[...As in, not thinking about what it's going to be like to go home.]

[He hesitates, feeling an undeniable sadness welling up in his heart which spills over into his next words.]
...Has to do more with saying goodbye.
no subject
[ There's a pause. Because ever since the announcement that they were near their mission's end, it's clearly been on everybody's minds, and Yzak isn't excluded from that. And for him, it's just been an extra weight on an already long-heavy heart as he looks to the finish line and beyond it. ]
I've admittedly been a little more focused on ensuring myself and those still aiming to undo their regrets haven't wasted all of our hard work and time here.
[ ... ] But, if those goodbyes are accompanied with the accomplishment of what we've fought so hard for ... it will surely make them a little easier, knowing that our friends are returning to something better.
no subject
Mmm.
[And Ryunosuke can't argue with that.
...Maybe "right now" isn't the best time for asking this next thing, but. If not now, then when?]
...I know you're trying to undo something very serious, but, regrets and goals all aside for a moment... Are there people you're looking forward to seeing, once you're back?

Dearka ... even if he's the one I'd trust the most to talk about what I've done here, he'd still probably look at me like I've gone fucking insane when I started to explain it.
He was there, too, when they fired that weapon right in front of us. And he won't remember it happening when I return unless I decide to tell him. But, if there's anybody who would understand the importance of doing such a thing, he would.
Even though it's likely she'll have more plans to get right under my skin with more of those freakish holograms, I'd still like to ensure my mother is doing well. Logically, I know she will be because it won't have been long since our last encounter, but you get what I mean!
And, I don't know if I ever look forward to seeing Athrun. [ Says the tsundere garbage man. ] But I'll need to check in with him because he better remember his time here, or else I'm going to kick his ass!
no subject
[He's gotten his ass kicked for not remembering other things but like... They're usually small. Like forgetting his student ID number.]
That's good, though. No matter what happens, or, has happened along the way, you know you have people to go back to. I think that's important.
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Susato-san again... Although she'll also likely have a hard time believing any of this, if I do tell her. [...A thought occurs. You can hear the slight wince in his voice.] ...She might even toss me across the room.
no subject
Yzak lets out a small exhale through his nose before he speaks again. Though all it starts with is a tone-slightly-lower: ] ... Yeah. [ Softer but not disingenuous. Because Ryunosuke is right; it is important. Though the what has happened part of things are every matter when it's going to come to returning home. Expected to simply slot back into where he left off when he know he's going to be like a piece of the whole that's his own world that doesn't quite fit right where it should anymore. And at one time, that was something he looked forward to because he still had that happiness that'd changed him so much.
But now...?
The thoughts are put aside (perhaps more shoved aside because he feels that knot of anxiety squeeze inside of him) when Ryunosuke moves on to speak of what he looks forward to. ]
—Huh? Toss you? Why the hell would she do that?
no subject
...But right now what they have to talk about is how Susato's hands ought to be classified as lethal weapons. Ryunosuke winces, again, and tries to think of how best to explain.]
Professor Mikotoba's daughter is... Quite gifted in the art of Judo.
[AS IF THAT ACTUALLY EXPLAINS "WHY".]
no subject
And somehow the mental image of the other man getting thrown around isn't very difficult to conjure up in the mind's eye. ]
I ... see.
It's a useful skill to have. Even if I'm not sure that it's best utilized quite like that.
You sound like getting thrown across a room is a common occurrence.

[He pauses. Sighs. Then sounds really wistful again.]
I truly miss her.
no subject
It won't be long until we're finally finished here, so you'll see her soon enough.
And be able to return to your goal back there.
no subject
Reforming the Japanese justice system ought to be a piece of cake compared to some of the things we've gone through here.
[...]
I suppose things will be significantly different in your case... You'll have a whole new future available to you.
[Yeah we're back on that subject, sorry Yzak.]
no subject
[ Even when speaking of it from a strictly general angle, it doesn't fail to trigger that feeling of an icy blade being stuck into his heart. No matter how hard Yzak tries to ignore it to answer the question. ]
I mean, I don't think anything too significant will be changed in the present that awaits me when I return.
What happened ... happened not long before the second war ended. The only difference is that weapon will have missed its mark entirely. We'll still know what would have happened and what their aim was, still would have taken the same action against it and the Earth Forces to ensure it wouldn't fire again. We would have been just as pissed off about it!
Everything else was already in motion ... to the point where I don't think the changes I'm here to make will affect it.
The biggest difference will be a loss of life narrowly avoided instead of something else we had to deal with in the aftermath of a ceasefire.
no subject
[He pauses ponderously a moment, trying to think back on all the things Yzak has told him about the situation over there in the ol' Cosmic Era.]
...I'll admit, I often feel as if I still don't have a completely clear picture of what's going on in your world. All those forces at play, and at a scale far bigger than anything my world has experienced. But... If you're viewing things in a broad sense like that. It's probably easy to forget that large number represents thousands of living, breathing individuals. That's thousands of futures that would have otherwise been cut short, suddenly able to go on living. All of them with the potential to make a difference in the world, big or small.
[He laughs somewhat sheepishly.]
It sort of makes my head spin a bit to think about it, to be honest. But my point is... It might make a more significant difference than you think. Even if it's not an immediately obvious or drastic change.
no subject
But even through that selfishness is the truth that Ryunosuke speaks, solid and powerful and bright against those dark thoughts. Something that Yzak himself can never deny no matter how much of a storm stays raging in his heart. ]
Mmh, you're right about that much.
... a couple of people on my team. They had family, friends, living on those colonies. And even despite what had happened, they were still ready to fight. To put aside their grieving to ensure it didn't happen to anybody else. I was lucky, they it wasn't my own hometown that was hit.
But the scope of that, even looking at those couple of firsthand cases I've seen, is obvious and drastic enough.
no subject
[Drastic changes, different futures... And being worlds apart from the only other people in existence who will also understand how much they had to fight for those changes. Not to mention what was sacrificed...
They started out this conversation both incredibly irritated and distressed about the orb containment situation, and that essentially still stands... But Ryunosuke feels oddly hollow and wistful now, for other reasons, which prompts a rather out of the blue suggestion:]
Hey... I'm feeling sort of peckish. Do you want to go get something from the mess hall together? Then we can take it back to either one of our cabins and chat a bit more without relying on the ear pieces.
