Right, that was enough excitement for one mission. Does anyone know why Viveca didn't teleport us out as soon as someone took the orb, like what happened last time? Or was it that Cheri- or Ruvia or whoever she really was- needed to give up ownership, and stealing it wasn't enough?
[If that's the case, they'll need to be ready to bargain and persuade on future missions, rather than hope that whoever they steal it from simply gives up hope of regaining the Orb.]
If anyone's injured- I know how to heal. You might need a few days of rest to make sure you don't disrupt the spells, but you'll mend more quickly than you would have otherwise. And if you're one of my students, feel free to come to the infirmary to help.
And- Apparently the Commander is real, and on the station. But what he said about the Orb growing vicious... are they shaped by the bargains they make, and the people that use them?
[It looked different from the Gyeonje Orb too, red instead of golden.]

As for your questions, we can ask Viveca herself once we're done with this and rested some. It'd be helpful to know what to expect, if there's some sort of rhyme or reason to how it works.

We probably should- if the orb needs to be given willingly, that means the best approach is to win over whoever has it.

[ He doesn't sound optimistic about that. ]
And, that's the best approach, but the real test will be what happens when it's someone who absolutely can't be won over for one reason or another.

I don't claim to know the severity or the stakes where anybody elses' regrets are concerned, but in a theoretical situation where they're high, a few lives might not even register on a scale in comparison to some, when it comes to obtaining one of the orbs.
[ His own regret is kind of like that. Nearly 2 million innocent lives - are a few in exchange for that worth it in the end? It sounds so simple when it's just a numbers game, and as a soldier Yzak has always been used to killing for the sake of protecting those lives. But he remembers needless slaughters, sick joy and vengeful desperation from his comrades. He's basically been on that line himself, once upon a time. Every step he's had to take since becoming a commander (and even some before) has had to be careful - like a game of chess. Assessing, planning, striking and preparing alternate paths because you want to succeed and you also want to protect as many of your own pieces as possible. You never know how a game is going to proceed or end, and sometimes you have to figure out where to go next on the fly. Yzak figures that if they came across a situation like that, they'd have to do the same. ]

[Sabriel doesn't want to do any of that. But if the Orbs are really that dangerous... will they have a choice? As Abhorsen, she's supposed to put a stop to dangerous magic- and that sometimes means killing the people that use it.]

It'd be nice to avoid that. I'd rather nobody feel they have to resort to killing anyone who might not want to give up an orb - and the idea of any kind of temporary brainwashing or mind control isn't very pleasant, either, even if it's not death. I wouldn't want any of that sort of shit done to me.
Do you think any of us would resort to that?

I think it would also depend on what the Orb was being used for. If the Orb had still been in Lord Suk-Ju's possession when we arrived on Gyeonje and he wouldn't turn it over... could you really say you wouldn't think about using force to make him give it up?

Everything's going to depend on the situation we're thrown into. That's why it's going to be important to think on our feet with any information we end up gathering.
And just as important to know our own team.

We'll also need to keep each other updated on what we learn, so someone doesn't think whoever has the orb is trustworthy when they're actually a liar, or an irredeemable monster when they can actually be reasoned with.

But, sometimes even with the best communication and the clearest knowledge of a situation, things don't always end the way they seem like they should from having those advantages. That's an inevitability that everyone has to face in their life, at some point. But being here makes it clear enough that we all know that much.

[ He goes silent, briefly. And then sighs. ]
But in cases like that, I'd hope nobody would simply try to take action on their own without any sort of consideration. That gets people killed. That's almost gotten me killed, before. And I've had members of my team nearly die because of that, too.
