[ If you’re one of the night owls aboard the station, you might find your communications device pinging you with an alert for a message that really probably could have waited until the morning.

But hey, you’re still awake, maybe you couldn’t sleep, and this is bound to be entertaining at best, and easily deletable content at worst. (But don’t do it. Don’t delete this. It’s very important information; it’s information that might one day save your life.)

Right, that was enough excitement for one mission. Does anyone know why Viveca didn't teleport us out as soon as someone took the orb, like what happened last time? Or was it that Cheri- or Ruvia or whoever she really was- needed to give up ownership, and stealing it wasn't enough?

[If that's the case, they'll need to be ready to bargain and persuade on future missions, rather than hope that whoever they steal it from simply gives up hope of regaining the Orb.]

If anyone's injured- I know how to heal. You might need a few days of rest to make sure you don't disrupt the spells, but you'll mend more quickly than you would have otherwise. And if you're one of my students, feel free to come to the infirmary to help.

And- Apparently the Commander is real, and on the station. But what he said about the Orb growing vicious... are they shaped by the bargains they make, and the people that use them?

[It looked different from the Gyeonje Orb too, red instead of golden.]

[ So in the downtime Zhongli has at least gotten a better handle on the device. But everything else here is still so far out of his depth he is very confused?! What is a microwave, who is phone?? So he's just gonna address the masses and hopefully, he gets some helpful tidbits. ]

I am sure that I am not the only person here who heralds from lands where technology is not used to this extent. I am wondering then how one goes about working that strange box with the moving platform inside and the light?

The sound it makes is troublesome but I don't know if that is how it's supposed to sound or not.
[ Please help him?? ]

I believe it is called a...micro wave? I have never heard or seen such a thing, and therefore will require some expertise on the matter. There are many other things as well that I would like to be taught. If there is someone willing to provide help in such matters you will have my gratitude and my aid in whatever you might need. As one who abides by contracts, I believe a fair trade of knowledge or skills is warranted.

[ Please. He doesn't want to blow it up. ]

I am also curious to know how many of us are nonhuman here as well? Those humans who are capable of feats known as magic may respond as well, as I am intrigued to hear of other's worlds and their own methods of magic. Perhaps in learning, we might be better prepared in forming groups, when it comes to our next mission.

Important message, beep, beep, incoming!

[He adds a few vocalized beeps for emphasis.]

That mission was a load of anxiety and bullshit, but we managed by the skin of our asses, huh? I, for one, hated it, 0/10, would prefer fluffy marshmallow planets with 0 conflict and less post-mission guilt and depression. Which, if anyone needs a really good hug, I promise I give some of the best ones. I'm talking 5-star hugs. Or, I don't know. Someone to not talk about it to but just ignore it while we hang out. That too.

Anyway! I've ordered like 50 pizzas from Viv, so we're gonna have a pizza party in a couple days. Fuck it, we're gonna do this like we're in grade 5 and we've just earned a thousand reading points. I've got a bottle of hard stuff, I've got a speaker that works, and I even promise I'll turn it down. Sounds good? Mess hall??? Mess hall! Awesome! Great! Someone request lots of booze, we need booze. Well, not for the kids. How many kids do we even have? No beer for you!!

Did I have beer at your age? Of COURSE but I'm an adult now and I see all the times I couldve died in my youth.

What was I thinking again? Right. Party. Mess hall. We'll have tons of cold pizza left over for the night after, in case anyone (me) overdrinks again. I'm in desperate need of a deck of cards too if anyone wants to do some poker. Rosi!!! You said we'd do poker!!! I didn't just imagine that, did I???

Also, everyone under the age of like 25, turn away.

You turned away?

Too bad if you didn't, I'm gonna lock this from you.

[LOCKED TO 25+ HA!!!]

Also for the record, if anyone needs no strings attached hook-ups, feel free to hit me up; I seriously haven't done anything since the last ~year my planet started getting into 'oh fuck we might really all die' mode except for that one fun time in the broom closet at new years that was cool. I mean, if anyone wants! But no pressure, obvs! I dont really have any preferences or anything and maybe it's weird to craigslist my body here, just figured sexual beings gonna need sexual interaction and whatnot and why not offer it if anyone's cool with that or FWB or whatever, or heck if you just want to hang out and listen to some tunes in a bed, I've got 0 requirements - sorry anyway if you're interested hit me up thanks bye

[And then, because he can't seem to post without accidentally trailing off into accidental brain-barf:]

god that was probably weird, wasn't it? good job newton you sound like a creep

[OOC: Anything relating to sexual activity can absolutely be FTB or handwaved into a morning after thread after the fact! I don't have any stake in anything sexy being threaded out, I'm more invested in the CR formed by it. I linked my current log, and a closed starter or wildcard option there works for me! But feel free to take it to my inbox if you prefer, or even yours, we'll just mark appropriately in the subject lines.

And of course, if you wanna square away anything for those threads and plot out handwaved stuff, shoot me a PP on plurk at [plurk.com profile] simpledog or via PM!

EDIT: The Pizza Party Mingle is also posted now!]

paging all wizards, those with and without a hat, long as you're magically inclined.

so I'll readily admit I got no damn clue about magic.

when he was fleeing, lord lack-of-accountability was carrying some sorta amulet with him. pretty sure it interfered with our ability to even touch him, but turns out there's very little a literal pit trap can't fix in life.

anyway. I still got the amulet. I was thinking maybe some magically inclined folk wanna make a project out of it? I'd prefer instead of just duct taping this to someone I personally wanna keep alive, maybe you guys could take a crack at replicating the magic, or enchantment, or... whatever it is. figure it would be more useful to be able to replicate the effect.

ps: sorcerers are just wizards without hats.

[ This time, Viveca's message comes in voice — and it's easy enough to tell that her tone is very much relieved, almost like someone who has been fretting for days and can't quite believe that nothing went wrong, in the end. ]

Welcome back, everyone. You did amazingly, believe me, that wasn't an easy retrieval... but you still did it. You can all be proud of yourselves. I definitely am.

Those of you who got injured during the mission, head to the infirmary, there will be medicine for you to help with your recovery. I've also programmed some helper bots for us, one in the infirmary and one around the station to take care of cleanup, so if you see small robots zooming around... don't step on them, please.

Now, I thought I'd get a special treat for you since it's your first mission. All of your devices should have a message that reads "food requests" — if you open that, you'll be able to request something to eat. I've timed the food shipment so that it'll come in later today with your requests, so make sure to get those in as soon as you can.

[ She adds, a little wryly, ] Don't think this is going to be an every post-mission thing, though, it takes a lot of our resources to do it this way. But just this once, I think you deserve it.

Speaking of that, you deserve some rest, too. It takes a few weeks to charge the main platform up to full power, so take that time to decompress and prepare for your next mission.

[ That concludes her message, and the comms go silent once more... but she's here to talk to, for those who want to chat. ]

I have some good news, and a request.

I've worked with Doctor Geizler, and it seems that some types of magic are effective against the infection- except I'm not sure it's an infection. Spells designed to purge magical corruption seem to be effective- particularly when combined with Finn's blood. More ordinary curative magic, the kind I was taught to use against ordinary infections doesn't work.

[Which raises even more questions about the origin of the infection. If it came from the orb, what does that say about the orb's nature? Or is this just a consequence of misusing it?]

But while that combination helps more than either alone, it's not a cure. For that, it's likely we'll need more magical power- either from So-Yeon and the orb, or from other mages among our number- or preferably, both.

If anyone here has some experience in the matter of purging magical corruption, we could use your help. The more of us working together, the greater the chance we can devise a true cure.

[There's a long pause before her next words, one born of hesitation. Sabriel's regret- the one she's here to undo- is the death of her friends and classmates. Schoolgirls who'd died because they'd needed more mages to open Kerrigor's coffin, and they'd been the only ones nearby. If she takes on students... Sabriel's not sure if she'll end up sending them into harms way too.

Except they're all in danger already, just by the nature of their mission. And future missions will probably put them in danger too.]

Or if you lack such experience and wish to learn... The magic I use can be passed on by baptism, and taught. Charter Magic takes time and dedication to master, and carelessness can be dangerous to both the mage and anyone around them- but more magical help would be useful, and the sooner people start learning, the sooner they can work up to learning the relevant spells.

[ Surprise, everyone! Shortly after the fighting has finished and some of the dust has settled, there’s suddenly a video being presented to you. Finn and Sans are sitting side by side in one of the provided palace quarters; while Sans wears the same expression he always does, Finn appears a little jumpy and a lot nervous. He’s eager to jump into his spiel so they can get to work, but there’s a lot of information to convey so--

He opens his mouth, closes it, then his eyes flick to Sans for guidance. Where the hell do we start? Taking the cue, Sans begins. ]

So, uh, hey. I know the guard's tucked everybody in safe and sound, but try to keep your heads on... Some of you can get a little, uh, screamy when there's big news. And spoiler alert: we've got pretty big news.

It pertains to the powers that be around here, so yeah.
[ He mimes dragging a zipper across his teeth. ] Zip 'em if you got 'em.

[ Another shared glance between the two and, welp, time to dive in. ]

I'll cut to the chase: Finn and I both met with the Ghost Girl. Me, about a week ago. Him... about an hour ago, heh. So if the kid's a little rattled, don't be too hard on him. He's one of the screamy ones I was talkin' about.

[ Finn’s brow immediately furrows. ] I’m not screamy. This is important, and we’re constantly being watched, and the palace separated us, and we need to act fast or--

Anyway. The monsters, the ones we just fought and... killed. They weren't always monsters. They were human, like the rest of the citizens around town. The quarantine zone, the "outer ones," all of them were infected by some sort of plague that turned them into what they are now. And it's not like they're animals now or anything, they aren't feral, they're just... people. People who've been forced into exile by the Lord and Lady. Hell, according to So-Yeon, they're the ones that did this to them in the first place. Suffice to say, they're pissed.

Uh, that's the Ghost Girl, by the way. So-Yeon.

To hear her tell it, all of this is just for the Lord and Lady. She wants the monsters to reintegrate into the city, to live side by side with their families and friends here, but she knows the palace won't allow it. They seem like they'd do pretty much anything to keep whatever they did under wraps. So-Yeon told me she tried bringing it to them directly, appealing to their sense of decency, but uh... she showed me this mark on her neck, and uh...

[ Sans pauses, fully internalizing in that moment that the scar she'd shown him may be the cause of her death. It's not a pleasant realization. ]

I don't think it worked out for her too good. [ He squeezes his eye sockets shut, pinching at his nasal bone with one hand and jutting a thumb at Finn with the other. ] Finn, I think this is your cue to tell 'em the rest.

[ Finn jumps a little, preoccupied as he was with Sans’ story and the reaction he gave. But, uh, right. ]

She said that the Lord and Lady used a power called the Golden Eye out of greed that turned their own people into the monsters we’ve seen. She snuck into the palace, stole the Golden Eye, and now she’s trying to find a cure. But the best she can do so far is give them their minds back for a little while.

She shared that power with me, but I have limited uses for it. What I know for sure is that everyone in the palace knows exactly what’s happening to our friends, and I don’t know what they’ll do to them once the change is done. So-Yeon offered all of us sanctuary, and I know the way. We just have to get them out of the palace.

[ He shrugs. ]

Considering she has the orb, whether or not we fully trust her, we have to go.

[ Slouching a little deeper, Sans huffs a completely unnecessary breath before flashing a quick wink at their fellow Orbers across the feed.]

Any ideas?

(( ooc: please feel free to tag around, threadjack, what have you!! finn and sans will be replying at random, you could even get both of them (lucky you) -- if you have one of them in mind specifically, call it out in your header! ))

what do you think happens if we don't do that personal goal shit
like is that it for us, do we get kicked off the team, sent home or what

[Someone's been having a bit of a crisis over his all week.]
bindsthedead: (art-cause for concern)
[personal profile] bindsthedead
Greetings. I'm a new arrival here, and while I have many questions, I think it might be best to start with an introduction- my name is Sabriel. I'm a Charter mage and- the Abhorsen, which means I'm also a necromancer, although rest assured, I do not raise the Dead. [Sabriel's voice grows more emphatic on that last point. Hopefully it will reassure people.] I lay them to rest.

In any case, I think it might be best if we organized ourselves- we need to gather information about this place, and recover the Orb, and that will be easier if we combine our skills. How many among us can fight? How many are mages, or have some knowledge of healing, either through medicine or magic? How many of us are willing to teach our skills to those that lack them? I could teach people how to use swords, or Charter magic, or the basics of first aid and wilderness navigation, for example.

In addition to pooling our skills, I think we should coordinate for the mission- it's likely this 'ghost girl' has the orb, but what is she? A restless spirit? A human with the power to control the monsters? Or some other sort of creature disguised as a human? And there's something strange about the city- there have been many deaths in the inner city- so I suppose they weren't lying about it not being safe, a normal amount in the Merchant District... and none at all in the outer city. Are we sure it hasn't been abandoned?

I'll see what the Dead can tell me, and what I can learn from the living.

[ooc: Feel free to threadjack amongst yourselves.]
