audio / un: strange - day 6, evening.

We have a way to evacuate the Hivawei.

[ The most important news first. The thing that can't wait. Then, on to detail. ]

Remi d'Arbes has answered our call. With his help, we'll create a path between worlds in search of a suitable planet for the Hivawei to settle. Our course will be set for Gyeonje - unless anyone has a suggestion for a place better suited - with the hope that in making our way to that world we'll find one closer, freeing up those of us based here to open more doorways for the Hivawei to travel through.

[ There's a truth between the lines there, but he doesn't drag it out. It doesn't change what they have to do. ]

We need to be as certain as we can be that the world we lead them to is somewhere they're going to have a real chance to thrive. If anyone thinks they'd be suited to making that kind of assessment and would be willing to abandon the search for the orb to assist with this, let us know as soon as possible.

If there's anyone not already involved who wields magic, or similarly esoteric [ shout out to Itachi for the verbiage ] power, and could spare some time - we'd be glad of you.

[ That's it, their plan and the help they're seeking with it laid out. There's a quiet from Stephen, thoughts ticking over for anything else he needs to add... which there is. One last thing, before they get so ahead of themselves that they forget what this is really going to be. ]

This will not be a small feat. If and when Chief Yerek decides it's time to tell the people, they'll be managing the logistics of a mass evacuation while preparing to leave behind everything they've ever known.

We've all experienced their kindness and the strength of their community. Let's honor that and ease the way for them as much as we possibly can.

[ And with that, he's off to get to work. ]

( ooc: Team Portal would've received this info before he dropped this network post (whether via text or in person for those in Hivawa at the time), along with anyone else in Hiwava who might've been hanging with the magic crowd or spotted he and Remi walking back and followed, so feel free to handwave having been around for the first in-person lowdown!

threadjacking welcome, be wild be free ]

[ Dang. The bastards really went and did it. Jake told Rita he’d help in any way he could and he meant it. No time left to waste hemming and hawing. There was hardly any time for congratulations, either. Maybe after it all shook out, one way or the other. ]

if you’re looking for a way to get a lot of people gathered together fast, i might be able to help. I’m not as fast as your nifty little space holes, but if it’ll free you up for the mega space hole there’s plenty of room on the big flying bus.

[ It’s him. He is the big flying bus. ]

If you need it, I can easily reconfigure the ship Yzak and I have been working on to ferry the Hivawei between settlements!

We know from past experience that Degar's magic alters our physiology to survive on our missions when necessary — the Hivawei will not have that luxury.

'we were fish once'. it's a whole thing. but there is also no way of knowing if he's been doing in in subtler ways all along, adapting them for variable gravity, oxygen levels and the like as needed.

@mccoy, do you happen to know if James took tricorder scans in Gyeongje?

I was not yet present, so I cannot speak to its suitability, but regardless of how welcoming the people may or may not be, I would prefer we avoid dooming the Hivawei to a crueler end than the asteroid.

not tryin' to be a downer, just. you know.

Are you kidding me? I get to actually use my education in environmental change and compatibility? I’m in!

[This is honestly the news he has been waiting and waiting and waiting for — that one small shred of hope realized.

… And so with this in mind, he starts totally nerding out.]

I’ve got data for Gyeongje still. A crazy amount of it, after we had to figure out the cure for the super gnarly virus that turned a bunch of people into monsters; I studied the unholy shit out of that world’s ecosystem and atmosphere and common infectious diseases. If these people’re on board and you need a guy to verify a planet’s compatibility, I’m yours for the rest of the trip.

If Iris can truly create items from his art as he has claimed, then Doctor McCoy could have him duplicate his tricorder. Additional units could not hurt as far as testing goes.

I believe that the woman Andy would be an ideal leader for the scouting party if she is willing. She is uniquely suited to survive in other worlds, and is clever enough to be able to grasp the tricorder's basic use without much instruction. She is not the only candidate capable of such a thing, only the one I would recommend. I will speak to her.

I cannot say whether or not your magic will be compatible with my chakra — but we should consider testing that before we advance along those lines as well.

I'm going to be blunt. My experience with relocation of large amounts of refuges has rarely been positive.

That said, and if you are willing to see the benefit of having a 'skeptic' involved in the scouting, I would like to offer that experience and my skills to the effort. I don't have magic or any talent like that, and I recognize we're on a tight deadline.

You really think you can evacuate an entire planet's worth of people in the amount of time we have left here?

[Excuse him, he sounds very skeptical. He's never seen an evacuation of an entire planet on such sort notice work. In his experience, it just tends to end in panic and trouble...and the inevitable anyway.]

ah, it's This Asshole. don't think he hasn't had an eye on your bullshit since alydhion, buddy. his tone, at least, stays politely neutral.

Perhaps not.

However, the potential for failure is hardly so insurmountable a barrier that people will not make the attempt regardless.

Do you have constructive input to offer?

Gyeongje's in here, all right. Atmosphere and soil readings, weather patterns and some basic scans of the locals.

Jim's tricorder won't capture detailed physiological data the way mine can, but there should be enough here to compare...

Thankfully there won't need to be a complete reset on the work we've done.

I can prepare the proper alterations needed - but things will move faster if those who specialize in planetside travel jump in to lend a hand.

I have a jetpack, so I can help transport people who aren't able to move very easily. And I've got a special bag from my teacher — it can carry a ton inside it. More than it looks on the outside. So any supplies they need, I can help them get it where it needs to go with way less effort.

It's not as much as some of the others can do, but I figure the more the merrier.

[Basically, she'll do whatever she can to help this last leg of the mission.]

We can try. It's better to do something rather than nothing.

Especially when the alternative is everyone dying.

[He's quiet when he replies, solemn in a way he usually isn't.]

In my experience this kind of task is... ill advised. Even with more resources the time constraint makes it nearly impossible. In the war... our intelligence officers eventually decided it was best to stop informing populations of their impending doom due to loss of resources and the panic it caused on the targeted planets.

I know this isn't a war but do we really have all that we need to save these people, or will we just be making it worse for those that survive? If any of them survive.

[ Optimism, hope, whatever you want to call it. It's the best birthday present Finn could possible hope for. No need for swordplay means Finn has very little to offer, but you'd never know it with how breathlessly eager he sounds over the network. ]

Wait, this is really happening? That's--okay. Okay, okay, um. I can maybe lift stuff? Anybody need anything, like, lifted? And then carried? Somewhere else?

Oh, or maybe I could... get people water! Does anybody need some trail mix? I've got trail mix! [ Almonds, great for energy! ] Just, whatever you guys need to make this happen!

[ Him, getting choked up a little bit on that last word there? Not on your life. He's a seventeen year old man now, y'heard?? ]

Honestly, it helps that we won't need to have the ship be fully space-ready. So long as the portals hold out, all it really needs to do is be able to carry as many people and their things... In the meantime, I can strip it down to its barebones so it can move between settlements to bring everyone all to one place.

let's... direct that energy, shall we?

Finn.

If you are amenable, I feel as though your presence could be reassuring to the younger Hivawei. Perhaps if you speak with the village chieftains, you could obtain a roster of the youth and see what it is they may wish to bring along, as far as luxuries go? The transition will be hardest on them, so small creature comforts will help them remain calm and settled.
