[It's Curious Robot o' Clock.
And as he has tended to do lately, he has a lot of questions with regards to humanity (or just - general sentience as an organic being with free will).]
I will need a name. Please advise.
It is part of the orb's request, that my 'personal goal' requires I allow someone else to name me.
What is the importance of a name, to a human? I've used a name someone from my universe called me, to help conceal my identity; it did not feel like it belonged to me, but it served its purpose temporarily. Instead, I have a serial number associated with me. Something equivalent to an I.P. address to monitor me as an individual within Skynet...
What does it mean to you? Your 'name'?
Do you care for it?

( the irony of he, an uchiha, saying that. yowch. )
They are.
What is 'Skynet'?

Skynet is the artificial intelligence that had once existed in my timeline, used to manage human creations that varied in complexities and risk. The hivemind system eventually gained sentience enough to terminate humanity, as they had found them their only considerable threat.
I was manufactured by Skynet to eradicate any lingering resistance groups. My model is specifically made to blend with human beings, so that my objectives are more easily carried out.

However, when you view the term more symbolically, some may realize that it may extend at one's choice to others not bound to them by blood. Many people, especially those who come from a fraught lineage, prefer to select their own 'families', of a sort. People they care for, would fight for, would die for. I cannot say if such a consideration is possible for you, but that you care at all about a name suggests to me it may be.
You were created to blend in. Therefore you must have some basic understanding of human function and behaviour. What does the word mean to you, then?

We did not let humans survive long enough to socialize among them.
... My reprogramming, destruction, and subsequent arrival to the Ximilia has..._
left room for improvement.

Your perceptions, however, were not incorrect. That is an efficient way to manipulate and target humans.
But you wish to change?

I have already begun to change.
[That's one nice thing about the T-800; there's no hesitency in voicing his thoughts.
And feelings?
... Will have to consider that.]
There were humans that I wanted to protect.
I feared for their safety.

These humans — did they have a surname?
Perhaps you might consider that for yourself, given your connection to them.

... But it would be an acceptable surname.
...
No.
A sentimental surname.
I find it sentimental.
I would like to use it.
