[It's Curious Robot o' Clock.
And as he has tended to do lately, he has a lot of questions with regards to humanity (or just - general sentience as an organic being with free will).]
I will need a name. Please advise.
It is part of the orb's request, that my 'personal goal' requires I allow someone else to name me.
What is the importance of a name, to a human? I've used a name someone from my universe called me, to help conceal my identity; it did not feel like it belonged to me, but it served its purpose temporarily. Instead, I have a serial number associated with me. Something equivalent to an I.P. address to monitor me as an individual within Skynet...
What does it mean to you? Your 'name'?
Do you care for it?
video; un: rita.farr
[ is it? ]
After all β well, I guess, it might not be completely obvious that Rita Farr isn't my β [ throat clear ] β real name. Sometimes you just need something that pops. Something to stand out in a crowd. A name is something you have as a way to ... solidify your legacy, I suppose.
[ cue a brief somber moment, as she thinks about her own legacy, what it's come to mean for her outside of being a well-known actress .........
before she claps her hands with sudden excitement. ]
Ivan King! Short and easy. Powerful. Memorable.
video;
How do you determine the 'strength' of a name?
video;
[ she's almost not used to people accepting her offered names so gratefully. ]
Well, I think it's about how much confidence you can embody when you introduce yourself. For instance, take myself β [ she straightens up, chin high, her voice like a velvety purr, with each word bouncing in the air. ] I am Rita Farr.
[ she grins, brows raised as if that alone answers the question. ]
See? When I speak my name, it shows that I am ready to take on any challenge that steps in my way, that I can overcome any obstacle, and that I will make sure that I'm remembered. Now you try it, with your perfectly chosen new name.
video;
But also, he seems to genuinely be trying to understand what she's talking about. It's an extremely human thing, something he's not sure he can truly pick up β a name shows something so specific? It doesn't make sense. Even so, he's always one to make an earnest attempt.
Standing as stone-still as ever, he says plainly:]
I am Ivan King, the Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 Series 800 Terminator.

Very well. Bucky, the name I typically go by, is a nickname of my middle name. I'm mostly used to it, even if I don't like total strangers using it. I'm not always comfortable with my first name.
What is your serial number? Maybe we can use it to make a name.
video;
You can call me whatever you prefer; I can save your selection in a file that will notify me that you are likely referring to me.
[A pause.]
My serial number is over 100 digits long. Would you like to proceed?
no subject
All right, we'll come up with something.
[ PAUSE. What? Bucky frowns for a second. ] Just give me the first seven of those numbers in your serial number.

I chose mine and kept it for personal reasons, but maybe to someone a name just sounds cool. You could make a dart board of names and take a chance and it would still count.
video
[Is it possible to amplify your usual deadpan? He may have accomplished it.]
... I am able to hit any space on a dart board intentionally.
A random generation would be more appropriate.
no subject
Yeah, that would put a dart in the plan itself too. [ haha. ]
Maybe a name just feels right. That's what I mean by vibes. I've been going by Andy for a while because I like it as a shortened nickname, one that blends in, and I don't have a surname so I just borrow one when I need it.

Though I'm sure there's a shorter one you use. With humans.

... Why is Maverick your first choice?
Re: video
What, you've ever seen the movie? It's ancient, came out in '94, I think.

text βͺ un: γγ‘γ―
My personal feelings on my name mean little. I am indifferent to it. I have responded to many other names or titles in my life.
no subject
It is hard to find value in the importance of a family name. I don't have family.
I am also indifferent. Names are at least valuable for alerting another party, or blending into a society.

Is 'Joe' a more appropriate name to use?
I can mark it preferred in my files.

Unless you don't want to use it, it sounds like you already have a name.

[It was strange and unusual, and it sparked curiosity in him.]
I'm not used to being an individual.
