[It's Curious Robot o' Clock.

And as he has tended to do lately, he has a lot of questions with regards to humanity (or just - general sentience as an organic being with free will).]

I will need a name. Please advise.

It is part of the orb's request, that my 'personal goal' requires I allow someone else to name me.

What is the importance of a name, to a human? I've used a name someone from my universe called me, to help conceal my identity; it did not feel like it belonged to me, but it served its purpose temporarily. Instead, I have a serial number associated with me. Something equivalent to an I.P. address to monitor me as an individual within Skynet...

What does it mean to you? Your 'name'?

Do you care for it?

[ The video starts with a dead thorn bush across the street from the place Joric has claimed as his own. There are people walking past, so he goes inside and shuts the door before the feed switches to audio. There's nothing of note to see in this place anyway. ]

That bush was alive when I left this morning. It's not the first I've noticed either. Strange things are occurring, like my heat crystal cracked and some food I had just traded for went bad within hours. I work with a few people and I asked them about it. They say it's common and it happens all over the city and the Plains among the three clans.

I asked for examples and here is what they said: their stored meat rotted quickly, a sword's blade rusted overnight, and a sister's hair turned white over the course of a day. There was also a rumor that children in a family lost the color in their eyes. Part of this seems like time moving quickly, like the rust or the bad meat, but others don't fit. The girl didn't age; only her hair turned white.

[ A brief pause, then he continues. ]

I thought if it doesn't have to do with time that maybe it has to do with something being drained away, like the eye and hair color, but I can't make that fit the idea of a rusted sword either so I don't know. I thought I would bring it all to you and ask your thoughts.

[ He simply isn't smart enough to think up reasonable answers. ]

[ooc: this comes from joric's search request if you want to see the whole thing! ]

[In the dead of night, a single line of text appears on the earpiece's network.]

Are there crewmembers who have decided to abandon repairing the source of their regret? If not, have any crewmembers at least considered this action? And why do you remain here, participating in missions, if so?

[When you've been developing a sense of self, it's hard to sleep.

... Especially when you're literally incapable of sleep.]

Whatever's wrong with this place, it runs deep. I've been tracking the paperwork at the funeral home- they don't let me near any bodies, but if you'd believe the official paperwork, this town is facing a suicide epidemic- people of all ages are supposedly killing themselves.

[And to accompany Sabriel's mental narration, she's added video- of her after-hours exploration of the funeral home.]

I tried to speak to the Dead- they've often a better source of information than the living, but- there are none here. Either the nature of this world is such that they pass on to somewhere beyond the reach of any necromancer after they die- or something else is at work.

[There's footage of Sabriel exploring the funeral home, narrating as she does so.]

There are bodies in the refrigerators- but none of them seem any younger than eighty, and all are dead of natural causes. And... I don't think I've seen anyone this old in town?

And the embalming rooms don't smell right- I don't think they've been used for some time. And this door...

[There are flashes of Charter marks against metal as Sabriel finds a heavy door in the embalming room... and forces it open]

Are there any spells here that aren't petty hearth-magic? They didn't even try to do a locking spell. But this place is some sort of storage room...

[And Sabriel investigates, opening the large coolers to reveal metal body parts, all neatly labeled but generic, uncustomized.

And then she finds a clipboard on one of the empty worktables. One with a single sheet of paper, with many names crossed out, including the unfortunate Mr. Myrsdin... and a handful of names that aren't crossed out- Yzak Jule, Daisy Johnson, Newton Farr-Geiszler.]

By the Charter...

[It's been a while since he's made a post to the whole network, so Yujin is on his best and politest behavior today. On the earpiece-video is a middle-aged Japanese man, sitting somewhere in the infirmary. There's a prominent white streak in his dark hair, and an only slightly-less-prominent mustache on his face. He gives the network a slight bow and a polite smile before he speaks.]

Hello, and welcome to the Ximilia for our new orbers. My name is Yujin Mikotoba. In my own world, I am a professor of forensic medicine at Imperial Yumei University, though out of necessity, I practice more generally on the station. If you're in need of any assistance, please don't hesitate to visit the infirmary: we also distribute first aid kits for you to take along when we're dispatched to missions.

I understand that waking up here can be extremely unsettling. If you are still uncertain of any details about how and why you have been called here, I recommend reviewing archived mission files or asking Miss Viveca or Commander Degar your questions if they are available. Otherwise, I and many others have been on station for several missions now. Your fellow orbers may be able to answer your questions, too.

[Maybe. He doesn't know for sure how friendly everybody is. Moving along:]

Additionally, if you'd like to help out around the infirmary, particularly if you have any experience in medicine or healing magic [yes it's still weird for him, a normie, to say that, too], please do come by. I or another member of infirmary staff can show you around, and, if necessary, get you up to speed.

We may have to save complete introductions for later, as a few of us are... currently under the weather... but drop by or reply to this message, someone will be around to greet you.

[And with all the energy of a teacher suddenly calling on a student, he angles the camera to catch new doctor recruit Emily Dyer: standing in the background and also... the only other someone around right now. She looks startled for a moment, but recovers quickly, giving the camera a small smile and wave.

And now, back to Yujin:
] Be well, everyone.
