Alright, let's not be total wallflowers at prom here, if we're going to be stuck together for the foreseeable future, I think it's only right that we (read: I) start getting to know all of my fellow space cadets. If we're ACTUALLY in space and this isn't some humongous simulation. You guys saw how easy it was for this place to manufacture a hyper-realistic simulation earlier, right? Yikes, big yikes.

But if we ARE in space and we're going to be traveling around, that's actually kind of AWESOME.

No offense to anyone who didn't want to actually be here of course, but you're nuts if you're not a LITTLE curious about the vast expanse of outer space. C'mon. OUTER SPACE! How incredible is that? And here I thought me coming face to face with aliens back home was INCREDIBLE, now we've got ACTUAL OUTER SPACE??? Pinch me I'm in a simulation. LOL.

Sorry I'm rambling, my name's Newt. Dr. Newton Geiszler, but but that sounds so much more boring and overcomplicated than 'Newt', so just stick with that. Worked as a xenobiologist on earth (is there multiple earths or what??? a lot of you are crazy unfamiliar with Kaiju, which is wild to me), helped giant robots fight aliens, the usual. Likes are rock music, playing instruments, tattoos, science and tech, dislikes are bossy pushovers who complain about those things.

Speaking of which, my really good pal from home's name is Hermann Gottlieb, and you should call him Herm to make him REALLY feel at home. :)

It's nice to meet you guys on the NEWTwork. ;P

... Actually—

[Suddenly, the text turns into audio, in which a higher voice with some focal fry bleeds in-]

—can I just abruptly switch to an audio function?

[A pause, and then an excitable:]

Holy shit, how awesome is that?! This is amazing; we've made some pretty monumental gains in technology back home, but we're still working on finessing the finer aspects of neuralogically connecting to networks like these for the general population. I'd love to take one of these apart sometime and see what makes them tick. Good to have an idea of what to expect, in case we need modifications or repairs done at any point.

Anyway. Uh. Hey!

... This whole voices-in-your-head thing can't be good for my train of thought, but geronimo, right?

[If anyone listens beyond that, they may catch the accidental thought-to-audio that follows:]

Wha — oh, dammit.

I sure hope this is the last nosebleed, because I would rather not worry about having accidental brain damage from drifting with aliens.

[ Flynn knows what exactly two of those three words mean, in this context, and he is... confused, but. Maybe flattered? Should he be flattered?

Flynn decides on 'neutral' and moves on, wondering at the spinning in his own head. Is that because he isn't used to the network? Just because the voice is echoing in his skull, between his ears? He settles his forehead in his hands, letting out a slow breath as he replies.
]

It's foreign to me, and taking some adjustment. Are you implying you're used to such things?

[ Like a Krityan, he supposes, if Judith really could talk to Phaeroh as she'd claimed. ]

You... had said your nose was bleeding. I know minor healing artes, if you need any assistance.

[ Well that's! Alarming! Thank you Newton he hadn't thought about physical side-effects but now he is very nervous. That sudden tension is clear in his voice. ]

Are those common side-effects where you're from? With the neurological technology? Where I am from—Terca Lumireis is its name—we've relied on technology with very unpleasant side-effects for a long time. A good friend found a new way to interact with that technology in a way that lets us continue to use magic, but much of the old technology had to be deactivated in order for the world to exist in a healthy way. It has been a hard transition, but ultimately, it's worth it.

[ Okay Flynn maybe said too much there, and coughs a bit at the end of all that. ]

My point is: pay attention to side-effects. Sometimes they're a symptom of a much larger problem.

Something like that, yes. I'm no blastia expert—mana expert, I should say—but we do have an impressive corps of former blastia researchers who have turned their talents to researching spirits and mana, now that we're relying solely on them. Their engineering and skills are what ultimately unlocked the potential of blastia, and what allowed us to use them for our artes for so long.

[ Flynn pauses for a long, quiet moment. ]

We also had to make a risky decision in order to save the world. Many. I hope yours ended up working.

[ Sometimes a little hope goes a long way. Flynn maintained hope in Yuri and Brave Vesperia, and things ended up alright. Just having someone believe in you can be the thing you need.

Flynn doesn't say any of that, though, just smiles softly.
]

I'm not very involved in the specifics. You'd have to ask our resident researcher, Rita, and I'm afraid she's not here. As far as I understand it, our world is made of aer, and we used aer directly through devices called blastia for... well, centuries. Millenia, maybe. But blastia usage was... eventually going to kill the planet. Rita figured out a way to use spirits to convert aer into mana, which is... well. More stable?

[ Flynn snorts at himself. ]

That probably wasn't a very good explanation, but that's why I'm a knight and not a blastia researcher. My friend Yuri might be able to explain it a little better, if you're interested. He was directly involved in the plan to convert aer into mana.

[ Flynn's voice goes very slightly tense. ]

The one we had was a weapon, and one we spent a lot of effort disabling. Unfortunately not before it nearly blasted my home to pieces.
