audio / un: strange - day 6, evening.
We have a way to evacuate the Hivawei.
[ The most important news first. The thing that can't wait. Then, on to detail. ]
Remi d'Arbes has answered our call. With his help, we'll create a path between worlds in search of a suitable planet for the Hivawei to settle. Our course will be set for Gyeonje - unless anyone has a suggestion for a place better suited - with the hope that in making our way to that world we'll find one closer, freeing up those of us based here to open more doorways for the Hivawei to travel through.
[ There's a truth between the lines there, but he doesn't drag it out. It doesn't change what they have to do. ]
We need to be as certain as we can be that the world we lead them to is somewhere they're going to have a real chance to thrive. If anyone thinks they'd be suited to making that kind of assessment and would be willing to abandon the search for the orb to assist with this, let us know as soon as possible.
If there's anyone not already involved who wields magic, or similarly esoteric [ shout out to Itachi for the verbiage ] power, and could spare some time - we'd be glad of you.
[ That's it, their plan and the help they're seeking with it laid out. There's a quiet from Stephen, thoughts ticking over for anything else he needs to add... which there is. One last thing, before they get so ahead of themselves that they forget what this is really going to be. ]
This will not be a small feat. If and when Chief Yerek decides it's time to tell the people, they'll be managing the logistics of a mass evacuation while preparing to leave behind everything they've ever known.
We've all experienced their kindness and the strength of their community. Let's honor that and ease the way for them as much as we possibly can.
[ And with that, he's off to get to work. ]
( ooc: Team Portal would've received this info before he dropped this network post (whether via text or in person for those in Hivawa at the time), along with anyone else in Hiwava who might've been hanging with the magic crowd or spotted he and Remi walking back and followed, so feel free to handwave having been around for the first in-person lowdown!

voice,
McCoy's manner is so direct that keeps him in the workflow, response as precise as the announcement that prompted it. ]
Remi's spell uses worlds as stepping stones on our route toward the edge of the universe. I don't know that we can specifically target the planets Viveca mentioned, but I imagine the nature of the spell and their proximity will mean we happen upon them anyway.
There's no telling how many worlds or universes it'll take to reach Gyeonje. If you can use your expertise to confirm the suitability of somewhere closer, we'll be in much better stead to get this done in time.
[ — and then here it comes, as inevitable as the tide. The reality of how much of a difference this makes to their growing effort sinking in. ]
Thank you, Doctor McCoy. [ And, above that - ] I look forward to working with you.

You too, Doctor. Don't thank me just yet though. Back home we usually do this sorta thing with the full complement of a starship's sensor arrays, not whatever we've all brought in our pockets.
( McCoy doesn't sound pessimistic about it, but energized, determined. )
We know Gyeonje's at least one solid destination. Since at least one planet within this Star system is known to be capable of visiting nearby worlds, findin' one of those here would be ideal for the sake of minimizing some of the risks for the Hivawei.

You think we could recruit them into a relocation effort?
[ If they can get the Hivawei as far as the nearest amenable planet with its own transport, the danger of a long journey through the cross-world pathway is made shorter. Ideal for the sake of minimizing some of the risks. Things get complex again if the scouting party aren't then able to find a world within this universe for the Hivawei to be more safely relocated to, and there remains no guarantee that anyone will be willing to help...
But it's something. If things work out that way, it's big. ]

( SORRY to burst your hope bubble, buddy. )
Yerek said 'To live, is to try'. We're gonna do the best we can with what we have, which is more than what these folks can do on their own.

Viveca's original plan would have essentially been to hand the fate of the Hivawei over to the nearest capable planet, right? If one of the stops on our path winds up being a planet with the ability to travel through space for at least a three-week radius as she described, and they're willing to help, they could take over the Hivawei's transport once we get them that far with the portals. I doubt the Hivawei will start moving until they have somewhere definite to go, but if we find a friendly if not necessarily long-term suitable planet willing to assist in their relocation, we could get them at least that far while the scouting party keeps on looking.
If we do then find somewhere within their travel distance, we can give them the planet location and let them take over. If the world we find is further afield than they can travel, we'll just continue the evacuation effort through the spell's pathway as planned - but from a planet not under imminent threat of destruction by asteroid.
[ A pause. There are a lot of what ifs wrapped up in the idea (there's no guarantee they'll find such a planet, no certainty they'll be able to find a way to talk to its people at the size they'll be when they get there, the list goes on), but it's not so very many more than the trail of variables they already have to navigate. And ultimately, if the option becomes available to them... ]
If we screw the timing or make a mistake with the orb or Degar decides to pull us early, isn't it better to have the Hivawei who want to keep trying gathered in the care of an interplanetary neighbour, rather than leaving them behind?
[ Death or uncertainty. Not the best of choices, but an option they should give the Hivawei determined to live if it becomes available, no? Stephen falls silent here, genuinely waiting for the opinion of a man who has infinitely more business assessing the ins and outs of specifically space travel than he does. ]

( And he's got the thread again, listening intently as Stephen lays out the potential scenario. There's a comforting familiarity in the exchange, two colleagues having a confab over patient care, charting a treatment plan. )
It's not beyond the realm of possibility, ( McCoy begins slowly, approving, ) If there's a chance of that, then we put it to the Hivawei to decide what they would like to do.
But I would feel comfortable knowing they were in good hands before we left, or pulled out suddenly or no.
There'll be plenty of what-ifs left to chew on, so right now, keep that in your back pocket 'til we see for sure what we're dealing with.

Right.
[ For now, the map of another possible solution to an insurmountable problem they keep stubbornly surmounting goes tucked into that proverbial back pocket on McCoy's suggestion. They have work to do. ]
See you soon.
[ The rest are discussions they can have soon enough in person, as everyone prepares for the waiting unknown. ]
