'Sup, ship mates. You've gotten the low-down from Newt already, Dusty's managing food and Grandpa Barnes is still passin' the buck as always . . . I figured I drop in my stuff too. A while back, I had a few people ask about self-defense classes and training.

And I figured that's useful 'cuz the last mission definitely went hairy and people got hurt. I'm happy to offer up some tranin', sparring or hell, even weapon maintenance or setting you up with some basic gear.

I got the qualifications. Did a stint in MIT, but also did a couple of active war tours 'round Afghanistan and Iraq, was a Navy Seal. Trained in a couple of martial arts disciplines. Ain't too shabby with swords and shields along with guns.

You're welcome to hit me up and we can start training. Skill's the best asset you got and you never know, even with superpowers or magic and whatever, to have an extra edge.

If that ain't your thing, I'll hook you up with some basic flash bombs. No fuss.

You heard of the Law of Conservation? Basically means I can't make a lot of weapons from only a smaller amount of iron for example. But generally, as long as I have enough base material to work with. Making something lighter or sturdier would depend on the base material you're working with, some metals are naturally lighter than others but they won't be as strong, as resilient as a result so it depends what you are going for with it.

[He knows that much from experience. From his auto-mail as well.]

Yeah. As long as I have the base materials to work with, you tell me what weapons you need for training and I'll see what I can do. Well. And if you need anything else I guess. More or less. Not like transmuting takes long or anything, so.
chrysology: (Did you try)

Hm, well. In theory? But learning takes a long time. So I'm not sure on how successful that would be in my trying to teach anyone else here, given that training would probably every so often end up disrupted with the missions and all. Plus, the way I transmute is different to most alchemists. I don't need to draw the transmutation circle or write the formula I'm working with. I just sort of write it in my head and my hands, when I clap them together, make the circle instead. I could try but I'm not sure anyone here would necessarily be that interested in learning a lot of chemistry and alchemical theory to be able to transmute.

[Ed is a prodigy and was surrounded by alchemy texts and such since he can remember in having Hohenheim as a father. So his situation is kind of different. He got training from a young age as well, but more than that, he himself hasn't actually taught anyone. And it is probably doubtful anyone wants him to, given the role model influence he would have in teaching being....Izumi.....]

I mean, I picked it up easily because I grew up reading alchemy texts the way Winry did with medical stuff instead of picture books almost, given our families. Plus, I had an amazing teacher. And I guess a natural talent and intelligence for it, being considered a prodigy. It's not impossible. Just a lot of work so most people don't bother learning alchemy even back home. And the ones that do, not all of those are in the military like I am to be considered that capable with it.

[Though of course that is how he knows most other alchemists, there are exceptions. Ed isn't meaning to dismiss the idea, just be realistic on how effective it might be to try teach given it takes time and with their situation of being off on missions every so often.]

I wouldn't mind trying to teach, but. I'm just saying it is a lot to learn is all. Nobody's gonna learn it overnight, just being realistic. If someone wants to learn and is okay with that, that's fine. I can go over some basics at least.
chrysology: (Know it)

Just as long as you aren't expecting to learn it overnight. Or that you will be able to do anything too complicated to start with. Hope you like chemistry. But I can ask Viveca for some alchemy textbooks. I only have my own notebook on me otherwise and that won't make sense to anyone else to learn from but me since it's written in code.

[Code not even his brother can figure out.]
chrysology: (You're in)

I'd hope not. But yeah, I'll talk to Viveca and see when I get the books.

[Ed hasn't considered the idea of teaching before but. Well. As long as whoever was patient and understood this wouldn't happen overnight in them especially being on his level.]
