'Sup, ship mates. You've gotten the low-down from Newt already, Dusty's managing food and Grandpa Barnes is still passin' the buck as always . . . I figured I drop in my stuff too. A while back, I had a few people ask about self-defense classes and training.
And I figured that's useful 'cuz the last mission definitely went hairy and people got hurt. I'm happy to offer up some tranin', sparring or hell, even weapon maintenance or setting you up with some basic gear.
I got the qualifications. Did a stint in MIT, but also did a couple of active war tours 'round Afghanistan and Iraq, was a Navy Seal. Trained in a couple of martial arts disciplines. Ain't too shabby with swords and shields along with guns.
You're welcome to hit me up and we can start training. Skill's the best asset you got and you never know, even with superpowers or magic and whatever, to have an extra edge.
If that ain't your thing, I'll hook you up with some basic flash bombs. No fuss.

[The accomplishments, the help, all of the above. There's a natural drawl to his voice that adds a bored tone but it's also cut with sencerity here. He actually does have respect for the military background.]
You have what it takes to make those flash bombs here, or did you requisition some from our ~lovely Viveca?
no subject
Flashbombs ain't major science. Even with the tech we had on our last mission, gunpowder, the kind they use for fireworks still packs a punch. Our lab ain't too bad either.

I can offer to help with self-defense, especially if anyone wants firearms training specifically, though I've also got experience with swords and explosives.
You don't happen to know if we've picked up a medic, do you? Though even if we have, it probably wouldn't hurt to include some field medicine instruction for anyone interested.
no subject
Damn, no clue. I know the basics, but I wouldn't boast about it.

But if you need help teaching people how to use knives and swords, I have some experience tutoring younger students at my school.

[ The voice is soft and somber, just a little halting - and it sounds surprisingly young for this place. ]
Not guns. The bad men have guns.
[ And with that cleared up, she can address the most important part: He was a seal. She has a book on animals, and she knows a few of them. ]
Do you... miss the ocean? How did you. Turn into a person?

Not . . . seal. SEAL. Stands for Sea, Air and Land. It's an army unit.

Is there some form of magic where you're from? Given our last mission and the number of people who have no experience with magic, here, I think knowing how to use physical skills against magical ones would be valuable.

Not that I know of, but it's possible I'm just not aware of it.

[Amestris being landlocked has no need for a Navy. And. Yes. This fifteen year old is apparently in the military back home. Somehow. He's already has others question this so he's used to that.]
You need help with the weapons, let me know and I can try make some. Assuming we have the materials to work with in transmuting some, I mean. Iron or whatever.
[Though. He's from 1910s so. His would be a lot more basic than what Erik or anyone else from that sort of time might be more used to.]
no subject
Sure, we can go a few rounds. What about iron with magical properties? I've been working on combos. Still think it's possible?

or, you know, like a soldier, and how in the world has he had time to do all that, and survive?! it's impressive, and also, did he just offer to make flash bombs? heavens.
he wants one, and that's silly, because he can literally attempt the same using qi, but that's not the point. he just... wants to set one off. once. in space, somehow. it's such an idle, ridiculous thought, he brushes it aside and sighs internally soon after. )
This one has been an instructor in the sword arts, among others, for a number of years. I'm happy to assist in sword forms, or in sparring as might be requested.
As for the rest, this one would appreciate learning of what weapons you know the maintenance of, and what you consider to be 'basic gear.'

I wasn't here for the last mission, it really went that bad? Some people in this station are superheroes and combatants in my world, I'm now wondering if their different leadership styles clashed.
no subject
No casualties, but we had wounded and infected people turning into monsters. The last battle was chaotic and we were kind of all over the place.

You cannot call him Grandpa Barnes.
[Yeah, she can't even begin to address the rest of what he's said. Not yet. Give her a few more minutes.]

I can call him whatever I like. 'Sides, it's nicer than the White Wakandan.

Yeah, I can wrangle a bunch of you for a brief gun course for sure.
audio; un: lanxichen
Though I'm also curious about learning to fire a gun as swords and my flute may not always been ideal weapons for where our missions lead us.
From my understanding, they are like blasters and nothing like shooting an arrow from a bow? [yes, blasters are now not totally unknown!]
no subject
You're pretty close. Shooting with an arrow also needs precision, but it's faster and there's more kickback involved with a gun or blaster.
