To those who have recently arrived on the station, welcome. You are the third group to have contracted with the orbs--and I suspect not the last.

Since we have a diverse and changing group, I think it would be ideal for us to set up some sort of regular training schedule for everyone. While our last mission was a success, we were not very prepared for it.

[And exactly 0 of their teambuilding exercises have been about practical skills. He's finding that a little concerning.]

Though it would be better to formulate a practice schedule based on what skills we have and how we can coordinate them.

So, if you have a moment, even if you are not new to the station, please share whatever it is that you are experienced in. It does not have to be combative--just whatever you feel is your specialty.

I am a Mesmer, which is a profession of mage that specializes in illusions and distortions. Thhings such as phantasms, stealth, stuns... I use it mostly in combination with a sword and shield to fight.

((Feel free to threadjack around the post! There will be more concrete follow up for a group-wide training schedule post mission but everyone can share with the class now to facilitate grouping together in the mission.))

I think this is a brilliant idea, Syrlya. I'm not sure what all I can add to the list just yet, but I know this will be useful to everyone here.

A training schedule sounds like a great idea. It'll keep people sharp and help us understand each other's abilities. It'll only make us all more effective for whatever mission we're faced with next. I could help run some of the sessions if need be. I used to teach a special task force back home.

As for what I offer, I'm a major in the Systems Alliance Navy. I've had missions take me on starships and colonies my whole career. I have some artillery training, though I'm best with handling pistols and automatic rifles. I'm pretty good with tech-- decrypting and hacking into security systems, overloading an enemy's shields, using sub-zero blasts to freeze someone, that kind of thing.

And I'm a biotic, which... I guess you can look at it like telekinesis? I can lift and throw things with my mind, or create a stasis that holds someone in place for a few seconds.

Our fabricators wouldn't be able to make anything as complex as a firearm, and we don't have any means of teleportation. There is a VI and an AI onboard our ship, though, so I'm used to sentient machines. I guess you could say there are some things I'm familiar with and some things I'm not.

As I was telling Erik earlier, I'd be happy to lend a hand in doing some weapons training. I'm most familiar with pistols and rifles, and though mine are apparently old-fashioned to a lot of you, the basics still apply. If anyone wants, I can also get into explosives, and I know my way around a sword as well as hand-to-hand.

Otherwise, I know enough field medicine to hopefully keep someone alive in a pinch, and if anyone wants to learn wilderness survival, sailing, or navigation, I'm happy to test out the simulation room's limits for those sorts of things. You never know what might come up on these missions.

Can't really teach anyone the silencing stuff, before anyone asks.

So I've seen. But a few have healing magic to complement the first aid skills. It will have to do for now.

I'm not new, was one of the first here. But. I'm Ed. Edward Elric. And I can transmute things. That is, with alchemy. A science. I basically analyze what something is made of, use those base materials in breaking it down to create something else from it. Or fix something if I have all the pieces, I guess. So, for example. Say, I have iron. I can make cutlery from the metal or I could make weapons like a dagger or sword. So long as I have enough of that base material to work with and I know the materials involved.

[personal profile] chrysology 2021-09-08 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
It does. That's why most basics I will probably be fine with but if it is something that's say, specific to the world we end up with on a mission, I might not be able to work with that. Or if it's something I don't have back home in general, even stuff here I might need to learn more about to be able to work with.

[Because for Ed it was the 1910s and all so. He's not the most up to date on technology because of that. For example.]

Been following along with everything so far but I have to ask: "cultivation"?

[Farming? Oh please let it be farming or gardening, the sunlight room would be a great place for growing fresh vegetables between missions.]
taciturnly: (it goes like this)

[personal profile] taciturnly 2021-09-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
( ALAS. gardening definitely is a thing he can do, but cultivation is a whole other monster. )

Qi cultivation, a balance between soul and body. Manipulation of spiritual energy for healing purposes. Strength. Cleansing, through music. And exorcism.

I'm a Major in my military, and though we primarily fight in mobile suit combat, we're trained for physical encounters as well. Firearms use, explosives, knives, hand-to-hand. Gathering intelligence, basic first-aid, and simple self defense, all of which I wouldn't mind passing on. I've also established that I'm used to life in space on a station like this, for those who might still be curious about that. I know some basic technological and weapons schematics, and from a couple of conversations it sounds like sharing ideas for the latter could be useful when developing anything new - for those who specialize in the development area.

Obviously since we're a team, I don't mind being approached about any of this at any time. Just contact me.

I'm learning a form of magic, myself, here. So in turn, I could always use some extra training for that on the side.

My names Raleigh. [ by way of introduction. ]

I was a PPDC pilot back home - basically means I went through rigorous military style training, as well as a specialized jaeger bushido program that's a bastardization of different kinds of martial arts. I can assist with teaching some fundamental basics as well, for anyone interested.

Jaegers. They were uh...250 foot tall giant robots. I never really understood why we were called jaeger pilots, they weren't airplanes.

I think this is a really good idea to set up something like that.

I have a few years medical training and some more recent wilderness survival experience from back home and know how to use a gun.

The technology is a bit more advanced than what I'm used to but I've been spending some time to familiarize myself with it since I got here.
