So it seems like things are getting a little late and I haven't accomplished my personal task yet. Unfortunately it's the sort I'll need a volunteer to help me out with, and I'm not entirely sure who still has time.

I'm supposed to let someone else make my decisions for me for twenty-four (24) hours.

Honestly I don't expect this to be a roaring success but might as well give it a try. If anyone thinks they can manage to spend a day with me in the face of almost certain failure, I would be moderately grateful.

All right, listen up.

[Why is this always so stressful? Oh right, because she'll be talking to people. People she doesn't know already, at least for some of them. That's never her favorite.

But she arrived in the third wave of orbers and she has both information to share and catching up to do and unfortunately talking to the rest of the crew is the best way to do that.]

I've got some information about what ghost matter is doing to people, and presumably what it would do to us if we use our powers more than twice.

[Which they'll have to take Viveca's word for. ]

Some of this we already knew. People have to use their powers to be affected. It's only using our powers that seems to provoke a reaction. When that happens, ghost matter attaches itself to whatever it is that sparks that power, and suppresses it. That used to be all it did and people would naturally recover when they left the affected area. Now it creates an autoimmune response, with the patients' own bodies attacking themselves.

The good news: it doesn't kill you immediately.

The bad news: basically everything else. After infection, patients can last a few months, degenerating over that time. What starts with fatigue escalates until their bodies finally give out on them. The symptoms are pretty diverse, which isn't entirely surprising considering autoimmune diseases can really be a crapshoot that way. There are no curative or therapeutic treatments, only palliative. The local medical community seems like they're getting pretty desperate about the whole situation.

So don't fuck around too much with your powers. Got it?

[She pauses, considering what else she ought to add. It seems like it would be abrupt to end the feed now. Oh, right—]

I landed a job at Naephus' Planetary Hospital and figure I'll follow this lead as far as it goes. I've got a couple of theories about treatment and preventative care which should hopefully get me a little more project access if I can get the hospital interested in them.

Otherwise if anyone else has anything to add, I'm all ears.

Hey all you gorgeous people out there...!

Newt Geiszler here, dipping my tootsies into the GMR division here to figure out this Ghost Matter business. Er, well, not quite figured out yet; I've got an appointment with the Federation’s Natural Resources Research crew to see if I have what it takes to get into the nitty gritty of this place's probably seedy backstory. Totally gonna ace it, don't worry; I'm a pro.

[We'll see how it goes.]

But I'll cross that bridge when we get to it and give you the lowdown on what I find some other time.

The important thing is: I'm here to find some tattoo buddies! If any of you guys wanna hit up the tattoo parlor, I have a ton of mission ink that I need to catch up on. Or, like, if you wanna get piercings — I've already got some hardware myself. [He sticks out his tongue to show off the glowing blue ball piercing; what a dweeb.] But tattoos are my top priority, just in case we end up stranded on a planet where there's nothing but sticks or lava crabs.

Anyone who wants to join in, I'm free in the evenings! This kind of thing, it's funner with company.

[... A pause.]

Oh, and welcome, new crew! Sorry I didn't introduce myself sooner, but most people say I introduce myself plenty just by existing in the general vicinity. If anyone wants to talk science or music, I'm your guy; usually I handle the less action-oriented side of things, so that's where you'll find me.

But anyway! Check it out; I've got some room on my back still, but I'm making good progress.

[He absolutely pulls his shirt up, showing off and naming his tattoos as he goes.] This one, this one, and this one — well, actually all my back tattoos represent some missions! The ones on my chest and arms are from home; we had a ton of big alien monsters back there, so I had to get them inked. They're sweet, right? But the mission ones, I'm super into them; this one's a rock dragon, and that's Remi's castle —

[Mmmmm. He'll never shut up about them.]

[ The video opens on a woman sitting in a chair with her hands folded in her lap and her ankles crossed. Her skin is bleached white and she wears dark red lipstick with pink eye shadow around one eye and blue eye shadow around the other. Her hair is pulled into an up-do, which of course signals the utmost professionalism, never mind the bun atop her head dyed pink and blue. She wears eyeglasses and a white lab coat over her usual attire of red and black color-blocked crop top and shorts. ]

Hi Ximilia! [ She waves. ] I'm one of your new arrivals. My name is Harley Quinn and I happen to be a psychiatrist. For those who need further explanation, a psychiatrist is a medical professional that specializes in mental health. So if you're feeling like outer space is making you antsy or you're hanging on to some baggage from last mission (I heard it was a doozy) then I'm the doctor for that!

I'm not starting a formal practice or anything, but I'm happy to share my expertise with the crew. First consultation is free and there's no obligation to continue! (Just kidding, we're not doing capitalism in space.)

And a general Q because I'm curious to know: What is mental health treatment like where you're from?
