[ of course, rita sets up a visual because the starlet always wants to be seen (except when she doesn't). at the present time, she seems rather enthusiastic like she's fighting a proud grin, one that suggests she's ready to give herself a pat on the back at any moment. ]

Good evening, everyone! For those who don't know me, I am Rita Farr, your Team Morale Coordinator.

[ wait, who assigned her that position? ]

As you all well know, we have been joining mission after mission with the intention of collecting orbs to protect the world and save towns from devastation. In a way, you might say we're ... space-travelling superheroes!

And as any superhero would tell you, it's very important to have codenames for our mission. Obviously, we often obtain our very own undercover civilian names. But in the line of duty, when we're in the heat of the fight, we should just as well have assigned titles to continue preserving our identities.

As the Ximilia's Team Morale Coordinator — [ again, who voted her into that position? ] I took it upon myself to select carefully crafted codenames for each and every one of you.

[ she then holds up a sheet of paper, featuring a list of all of the orbers, each with another name printed beside them. ]

You will find this list posted in the Mess Hall. Please take a moment at your best convenience to study the list and memorize each of the names listed for future use. Though I worked very hard to select them — [ she clears her throat, brushing her hair back. ] I suppose that if you have any issue with the name chosen for you, we can discuss making possible changes. Though I don't see why anyone would want to.

She is belittling our cause with willful naivety. How is it that the damage we have left in our wake — leaving Welford Branson to linger eternally in an empty world, or the trauma of what occurred to the population in E-23b — make us heroes of any sort? If you were to ask a citizen of Viveca's world if they consider us so, what do you think they would say to that? We have been the cause of devastation as often as its preventor.

She may call herself what she wishes, but this is foolishness brought about by one who cares more for her perceived reputation than for how her words reflect on and impact the rest of us. If she prefers to live in a fantasy world where we have only done good deeds, that is her business — but I have neither time nor patience for such a rose-coloured reality.

[ rita can't ignore it or turn her eye away from it. after years of hearing it, the reminders of her selfishness, of her own self-indulgence for empty praise and flattery, she recognizes plenty of words that she has accused herself of, time and time again.

so, she's, no doubt, angry. enough that she reaches to itachi through the earpieces, with all attempts to put on a brave face and make her stand. ]

Don't you dare.

Don't think that because I am choosing not to wallow in guilt and self-hatred every second that I live on this station, that I don't know the damage we've done — the damage I've done. I know the danger I became on Viveca's world and that sometimes I hurt people I mean to save, as we all do.

I know that I am not a good person. I chose to be here because of that. Because I haven't always done good deeds. But that does not mean—

That doesn't mean we can't have good things. That we don't still deserve some of it.

[ her voice nearly cracks and she inhales a breath, but she can feel it. the part of her that takes over when she remembers the hatred for herself. she swallows. ]

We still deserve to laugh and to watch movies and share stories. We deserve to uplift each other to remind ourselves we can keep going even when it's been hard on everyone. We can still be heroes even if we screw up over and over and over again.

So, fuck you — if you think that everything I try to do for you all is nothing but a fantasy because, guess what — I have already spent over sixty damn years angry at myself for my choices and I will not spend my time here in misery, punishing myself all over again, all because you don't know a shred of what it means to try to find a single spark of good in your life.

Do you think I am somehow condemning the idea of these other activities, Ms. Farr? I believe I only spoke on the fecklessness of calling us superheroes.

However, consider that what you take to be uplifting for one is not for all. Consider that not everyone shares your ideals, that there are those who come from places where titles have weight and meaning that you may be overstepping in the name of performative cheer. Consider that it is selfishness to try and use others to make yourself feel better because of your own internal disposition while acting as if it is an act of charity you perform for the rest of us.

After you make those considerations, perhaps you will understand why I am not willing to entertain your behaviour.
